Job Brief

The Business Finance Analyst – Commercial / Operations drives financial excellence by evaluating high-impact opportunities, conducting ad hoc analyses, and assessing financial risks. This role supports annual planning, budgeting, and forecasting with the central team, prepares for financial reviews, and addresses management reporting needs while liaising with the central finance function.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough analyses of potential business opportunities, including new projects, investments, or market expansions, to assess their financial viability and strategic alignment.
  • Develop financial models and scenarios to forecast potential outcomes and impacts of various opportunities, assisting management in making informed decisions.
  • Calculate and interpret the return on investment (ROI) for proposed initiatives, helping to prioritize high-impact opportunities.
  • Perform in-depth, ad hoc financial analyses as needed to address specific business questions or challenges, including profitability analysis, cost-benefit analysis, or margin analysis.
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for business leaders. Provide recommendations based on trends, patterns, and financial performance indicators.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports and presentations that communicate findings and insights effectively to stakeholders at various levels.
  • Proactively identify financial risks and issues, including market fluctuations, cost overruns, or revenue shortfalls.
  • Develop and recommend strategies to mitigate financial risks. Work with relevant teams to implement risk management practices and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Assist in developing contingency plans to address potential financial challenges or unexpected events.
  • Support the annual planning process by providing financial data and insights that inform the development of strategic goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with the central budgeting team to prepare accurate and detailed budgets, ensuring alignment with business unit goals and financial targets.
  • Assist in the development of financial forecasts, including revenue, expenses, and capital requirements. Regularly update forecasts based on actual performance and changing conditions.
  • Develop and deliver tailored management reports and dashboards in MS Excel, Power BI, etc., that meet the specific needs of the business unit. Ensure reports are accurate, timely, and relevant.
  • Conduct advanced analytics on large data sets using analytical tools like Alteryx, Azure Data Factory, etc.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of financial data used in management reports. Address any discrepancies or issues promptly.
  • Communicate financial information effectively to business unit leaders and other stakeholders, providing clear explanations and recommendations.
  • Act as a key liaison between the business unit and the central finance function. Facilitate communication and coordination to ensure alignment on financial policies and procedures.
  • Work with the central finance team to address and resolve financial issues or discrepancies. Provide support and guidance to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to financial processes and systems, contributing to greater efficiency and effectiveness in financial management.

Requirements and Skills

Top Competencies Required:

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and trends.
  • Proficiency in analytical tools like Alteryx, Azure Data Factory, etc., and advanced Excel skills. Experience with financial modelling and analysis tools is mandatory.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and effectively.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing financial challenges.

Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in financial analysis, planning, or a similar role.
