Data Analytics and Program Support: Under general supervision of the Information System Analyst Supervisor, develops and applies advanced methods to identify, collect, process, organize, and analyze structured and unstructured data using statistical prediction, inference, optimization, and machine learning techniques. This position collaborates with the MPOG MD Director and is responsible for leading the department’s data analytics, research, and statistical functions, independently managing moderately complex projects and major components of large, cross-departmental initiatives. The analyst deploys data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes; classical statistical analysis; predictive and prescriptive modeling; optimization; and data visualization techniques to generate actionable insights. Working with large, heterogeneous datasets integrated from multiple sources, the role partners closely with data engineers and IT staff to design, refine, and provide feedback on data systems and processes. Takes the lead over subordinate(s) and effectively communicates findings to departmental and divisional decision-makers to support data-driven program design, management, and strategic decision-making.
AQI Analysis: Responsible for the management, submission, validation, and analysis of anesthesia clinical data through participation in the Anesthesia Quality Institute’s National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry (NACOR). This position ensures accurate data capture, integrity, and timely transmission to NACOR, serving as the departmental subject matter expert on AQI registry requirements and reporting standards. The AQI Analyst analyzes NACOR data to support clinical outcome monitoring, national benchmarking, regulatory reporting, and performance improvement initiatives specific to anesthesia practice. The role provides detailed reports to Department Leadership and anesthesia providers, translating registry data into actionable insights that support quality initiatives, research efforts, contract negotiations, and compliance with the CMS Quality Payment Program (QPP), including MIPS reporting through NACOR’s Qualified Registry (QR) and Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) designations. The AQI Analyst collaborates with clinical, operational, compliance, and IT stakeholders to maintain registry participation, optimize data quality, and maximize the strategic value of NACOR engagement.
Perioperative Intelligence Analysis: Responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Perioperative Intelligence Program in collaboration with the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group (MPOG). This position oversees the automated extraction, validation, and submission of institutional perioperative data to the MPOG registry, ensuring data integrity and adherence to registry standards prior to transmission to the coordinating center at the University of Michigan. The analyst evaluates registry data to examine the relationship between patient characteristics, healthcare systems, surgical procedures, perioperative care, and postoperative outcomes, translating findings into actionable insights to support research, quality improvement, and educational initiatives. The role serves as the departmental liaison to MPOG committees, including the Quality Committee, Perioperative Clinical Research Committee, and Executive Board–driven initiatives, and collaborates with clinical, operational, IT, and research stakeholders to advance innovation, benchmarking, and evidence-based perioperative practice improvement through active registry participation.
Reporting: Acting as a member of the Executive Reports Committee, this position will develop specific needs reports for our internal and external clientele, while also participating in predictive staffing modeling to include anticipation of obstacles, planning for contingencies, budget forecasting, bonus Z payment, and a host of other complex reports. This role is well-versed in advanced reporting and is an expert user of EPIC Slicer Dicer, Reporting Workbench, SIS Analytics, C8 Health AI, and Microsoft Access. The position also leverages some of the most advanced features of Microsoft Excel, including but not limited to PivotTables, Conditional Formatting, Data Validation Lists, and advanced functions such as IF, AND, VLOOKUP, COUNTIFS, and INDEX, among others. In addition, this position interacts with and supports a variety of enterprise and departmental systems such as Epic EMR, C8 Health, AQI, MPOG, and various home-grown reporting tools. Responsibilities include interpreting and implementing complex systems, procedures, and specifications for end-users, and actively participating in cross-functional teams to address and resolve comprehensive business system issues.
