Cabinet Designer

Trails End Custom Construction - Concord, NC

Trails End Custom Construction is a leading residential custom cabinet shop dedicated to transforming client visions into reality through high-quality, bespoke cabinetry and exceptional service. We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cabinet Designer to join our team, serving as the critical link between our clients' dreams and our shop's production capabilities.

Primary Responsibilities

The Cabinet Designer is responsible for managing the design process from initial client contact through final order submission, ensuring designs are accurately captured, specified, and prepared for production.

Client & Project Management

  • Serve as the primary design contact for clients, gathering all necessary material, hardware, finish, and appliance selections for both custom and semi-custom cabinet projects.
  • Conduct design meetings, either in-person or virtually, to refine layouts, review options, and confirm specifications.
  • Coordinate project timelines and design milestones with external contractors, builders, and the internal Trails End project management team.

Design & Specification Execution

  • Custom Cabinetry:
  • Create detailed, dimensionally accurate, and visually representative designs using 2020 Design Software (or equivalent industry standard software) that clearly communicates the scope of work and design intent.
  • Compile a complete and meticulous ‘Project Data Sheet’ for every custom order. This sheet must encompass all necessary selections, materials, hardware specifications, dimensional call-outs, appliance dimensions, and any unique construction requirements to ensure a seamless transition to the Engineering department and installers.
  • Ensure the design package is fully complete and accurate before submission for quoting and invoicing.
  • Semi-Custom Cabinetry:
  • Design and specify semi-custom orders following the specific product line's catalog and guidelines.
  • Compile a ‘Project Data Sheet’ for every semi-custom cabinet order. This sheet must encompass all necessary selections, materials, hardware specifications, dimensional call-outs, appliance dimensions, and any unique installation requirements.
  • Generate and submit accurate order forms/specifications directly to the vendor.

Internal Coordination

  • Collaborate closely with the Sales team to ensure designs meet budgetary requirements.
  • Submit the completed 2020 design and the comprehensive Project Data Sheet to the Engineering department, acting as the primary resource for any design clarification needed before final shop drawings are created in Mozaik Software.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date project files, documentation, and communication records.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in residential cabinet design, kitchen design, or interior design focused on millwork.
  • Expert proficiency with 2020 Design Software (or similar cabinet-specific design software).
  • Demonstrable understanding of both custom and semi-custom cabinetry construction, materials (wood species, finishes, laminates), hardware, and installation practices.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail, particularly in specification and data entry.
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills for professional client and contractor interactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet strict deadlines.

Preferred

  • Experience interacting with or providing data to engineering/production software like Mozaik, Cabinet Vision, or similar.
  • Degree or certification in Interior Design, Architecture, or related field.
