Position Description: With moderate supervision and working within established procedures, this position provides service during the summer at Camp Read-a-Rama. Camp Read-a-Rama is a literacy based, half-day camp, using books as the theme for all activities. Counselors will serve as camp staff to 2nd-5th grade campers. Position Responsibilities: Prepares and implements activities, crafts, games and music for camp based around the summer theme. Sets up and takes down any equipment necessary for camp. Performs storytimes daily. Connects and engages with elementary school children . Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: The District may accept an equivalent combination of education and experience in lieu of the above requirements. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in or be a recent graduate of an education-focused college program. Training in childrens literature and experience working with children in an educational capacity a plus. Work Environment/Physical Demands: Work is performed primarily in an outdoor environment such as a park, with times inside library buildings. An individual performing the duties in this position may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time, lift or move up to 40 pounds and/or push and/or pull objects weighing 50-100 pounds on a wheeled cart or book truck. Spokane County Library District is seeking enthusiastic Camp Counselors to support Camp Read-A-Rama, a pair of fun, literacy-focused, week-long day camps held at the Spokane Valley library.
Camp Dates:
Week 1: June 2225
Week 2: June 29-July 2
Week 3: July 6-9
Week 4: July 13-16
Week 5: July 20-23
Week 6: July 27-30
Counselors must be available 8:00 AM 2:00 PM on all camp days and attend 12 pre-camp planning sessions (dates and times to be determined).
