The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 800 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.
This paid internship is in the House Human Capital Office of the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The House Human Capital Office is responsible for providing human-resource related support to Member, Committee, and Leadership Offices. The House Human Capital Office's offerings include: the House Intern Resource Office, the Office of Talent and Development, the Office of Employee Assistance, the House Center for Well-Being, and the Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program. The House Human Capital Office is excited to provide engaging experience for an intern to support our dynamic team. We will offer the intern the ability to (1) work on challenging and rewarding projects; (2)contribute to meaningful and important activities; and (3) support programs in service to the House.
paid at an annual rate of $36,834 not to exceed 120 days
** The CAO standard business hours are 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week internship that will require onsite attendance in Washington, D.C.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Provides administrative or operational support on various projects and activities.

Provides and projects a positive customer-focused professional image in all interactions.

Performs other official duties and special projects assigned.

Leverage knowledge of Congressional member office operations to navigate workflows,
coordinate meetings, and support office processes.

Performs other official duties as assigned.

Associate degree or certification from an accredited business or technical school, or enrolled student in a community college, junior college, university or graduate school program.

This is a full-time, in-person position, 40 hours a week, M-F.
**Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactorily completing a criminal history records check (or other applicable security clearance) and a pre-employment drug-test (pre-identified position only)

Interest and curiosity in government and the human resources field with administrative/operational experience required.

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required.

Must be able to work with all levels of a multifaceted workforce as well as with sensitive,
confidential, and complex projects/ responsibilities. Ability to multi-task and work well both
independently and on a team required.

Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, as well as the ability to
establish effective working relationships with senior staff and other high-ranking officials.
Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in a member’s office.

Preferred Graduate student, recent graduate, or Junior or Senior level.

Experience working in a professional office setting.

Experience managing social media profiles for a company or organization.

Experience supporting large scale events.
