Job Summary:

The Carpenter is responsible for performing a variety of carpentry duties as assigned. Carpentry services include, but are not limited to, the design, construction, installation and repair of wooden fixtures and structures such as cabinets, furniture, shelving, doors, plaques, and other custom wood products. Other duties include, but are not limited to, installing door locks replacing and install all finished building hardware such as door closures, panic bars, repair locks on file cabinets, desks, and other pieces of furniture, framing and finish work, painting, staining, etc. Performs minor Locksmithing working as assigned.

Pay Rate: $30.64 per hour. This will be a union position

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:30am - 3:00pm

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains in good repair building woodwork and equipment such as bins, cribs, counters, benches, partitions, doors, floors, stairs, casings, and trim made of wood.
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, models, or verbal instructions, using a variety of carpenter's hand tools, portable power tools and standard measuring instruments, making standard shop computations relating to dimensions of work and selecting materials necessary for the work.
  • Read blueprints/ instructions and examine surfaces to determine the kind and amount of work necessary.
  • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
  • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects. Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive.
  • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
  • Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete or for tunnels, bridges, or sewer construction projects. Erects and dismantles scaffolding.
  • Installs windows and doors.
  • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines.
  • Perform rough and finish carpentry work with high attention to detail and quality
  • Use analytical skills and good attention to detail to determine how to build new structures and make repairs to existing ones
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area
  • Meet weekly production goals per assigned project
  • Demonstrate a good work ethic based on principles of honesty and integrity
  • Work in a safe manner and follow all safety policies while performing job duties
  • Complete projects according to work orders in a timely and professional fashion
  • Deliver high-quality carpentry work
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Top Secret Clearance or ability to obtain clearnace post-hire
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive, hands-on experience in a commercial or industrial setting
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Knowledge of computers and basic computer applications
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of AFM and government stakeholders
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot
  • Ability to time manage and prioritize tasks

Working Environement and Equipment Used:

Work takes place in a large, complex facility with exposure to varying noise levels due to equipment. Work may take place in an indoor or outdoor setting or in a confined space. Equipment used are hand tools and power tools related to carpentry tasks.
