Job Purpose

The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting functions, ensuring accurate maintenance of books of accounts, timely finalization of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and compliance with statutory, regulatory, and audit requirements. The role plays a critical part in financial control, reporting, and decision support.

Key Responsibilities

Finalization of Accounts & Financial Reporting

• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual finalization of accounts in accordance with IFRS and local regulations.
• Prepare and review financial statements, trial balance, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statements, and supporting schedules.
• Ensure timely month-end and year-end closures with proper reconciliations.

Accounting & Control

• Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and inventory accounting.
• Ensure accurate posting, classification, and documentation of all financial transactions.
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies.

Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate with internal and external auditors during audits and ensure closure of audit observations.
• Ensure compliance with VAT, taxation, statutory filings, and regulatory requirements.
• Liaise with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and other stakeholders as required.

Budgeting & Analysis

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Provide financial insights, MIS reports, and management dashboards to support decision-making.

Team & Process Management

• Supervise and guide the accounting team, ensuring timely deliverables and skill development.
• Identify process improvements, automation opportunities, and system enhancements (ERP / accounting software).

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Commerce (Master’s / professional qualification preferred).
• 8–12 years of relevant accounting experience, with hands-on experience in finalization of accounts.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS, VAT, and statutory compliance.
• Experience working with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Tally, or similar).
