Chief Technology Officer

Owns:  Technology strategy, data strategy , architecture, engineering execution, delivery predictability, platform reliability, security, developer productivity, tech org health

Reports to:  CEO

Part of:  Executive/Management Team

Location:  Egypt (Alexandria)

Team:  ~120 engineers (direct leadership via Engineering Leadership Team), plus IT leadership alignment


Role Purpose

The CTO ensures our clients platform is  secure, scalable, reliable, and predictable , enabling product innovation without compromising quality or customer trust.

This role exists to  restore execution reliability, reduce complexity, and build an engineering organization that can scale with confidence . The CTO is accountable for turning strategy into consistent delivery while modernizing the platform for long-term growth.


Key Responsibilities

1) Technology Vision & Architecture

·      Define and own the long-term technical vision aligned with the product strategy.

·      Drive architectural clarity across platform, integrations, data, and cloud foundations.

·      Make clear, sequenced tradeoffs on modernization, build vs buy, and standardization.

·      Define and execute future-looking innovation and AI

2) Engineering Execution & Predictability

·      Establish a delivery system that is transparent, predictable, and accountable.

·      Own delivery commitments and execution discipline across teams.

·      Improve cycle time, throughput, and planning reliability without sacrificing quality.

·      Provide clear executive-level visibility into progress, risks, and tradeoffs.

3) Reliability, Quality & Security

·      Own platform availability, performance, and incident management.

·      Ensure postmortems lead to systemic improvement, not just fixes.

·      Embed security and compliance into the SDLC (security-by-design).

·      Raise the quality bar across testing, release readiness, and operational hygiene.

4) Simplification & Complexity Reduction (ESA)

·      Aggressively reduce architectural, process, and tooling complexity.

·      Drive  Eliminate – Standardize – Automate  initiatives with measurable impact.

·      Own a multi-year tech debt and modernization roadmap with clear ROI.

5) Tech Org Leadership & Talent

·      Build and continuously upgrade a strong engineering leadership bench.

·      Set a high hiring and promotion bar; address underperformance decisively.

·      Develop leaders who own outcomes, not just output.

·      Foster a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, transparency, and collaboration.

6) Business & Customer Alignment

·      Ensure engineering teams understand customer impact and business priorities.

·      Partner with Finance on cloud efficiency, cost of revenue, and margin improvement.

·      Use reliability, defects, and incidents as learning inputs tied to customer outcomes.

·      Pre-sales involvement with Enterprise clients

7) Product-Technology Partnership

·      Own the  “how” ; jointly own the  “when”  with the CPO.

·      Participate in shared quarterly planning with explicit capacity allocation:

o   Core roadmap

o   Platform / tech debt

o   Innovation / future bets

·      Lead joint postmortems for missed commitments or major incidents.

KPIs (Primary)

  • Platform availability, performance, SLO attainment
  • Incident frequency/severity, MTTR
  • Delivery predictability, cycle time, release frequency
  • Quality metrics (defects, regressions)
  • Security/compliance readiness
  • Cost of revenue (tech), cloud efficiency, developer productivity

Ideal Background

·       10+ years in senior engineering/technology leadership in SaaS environments

·       Proven track record restoring delivery reliability and reducing complexity

·       Strong architecture, reliability, and scaling experience

·       Experience upgrading engineering leadership capability

·       Hands-on enough to dive deep; senior enough to delegate effectively

·       Calm, decisive operator with a strong GSD mentality

·       Experience building and leading 80-200+ person (remote) engineering orgs

·       Experience with Azure, Javascript, C#, Typescript preferred

What success looks like in year 1:

·      Restore and maintain predictable delivery through disciplined planning, dependency management, and execution rigor. Accountable for delivery commitments and transparency to the executive team.

·      Actively reduce architectural and process complexity that slows teams and increases risk.

·      Upgrade leadership capability where required to meet scale demands.

·      Ensure engineering teams understand customer impact, reliability expectations, and business priorities.”

·      Define a clear vision and develop and execute a phased strategy for its implementation.

·      Develop and execute a robust migration plan for legacy and customized customers

·      Establish cross-team guidelines and best practices 

·      Integrate AI into core strategy and way of working – establish a dedicated data science team to lead AI initiatives
