Civil- Construction Maager

Role and Responsibilities

Construction managers are responsible for coordinating all aspects of a construction project from start to finish. Their duties include interpreting building plans, understanding client requirements, and setting achievable project goals. They prepare detailed timelines, delegate tasks, and coordinate between architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure smooth workflow.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Project Planning and Execution: Oversee all construction phases, including structural works, services installation, finishes, and commercial fit-outs.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and manage site teams, including site managers, foremen, and supervisors.
  • Budget and Cost Control: Develop budgets, track expenses, and ensure cost-effective procurement of materials, labor, and services.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and enforce SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) plans.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of workmanship and compliance with construction regulations.
  • Problem Solving: Conduct risk assessments, develop contingency plans, and resolve issues such as design changes, equipment failures, or workforce challenges. 1

Qualifications and Skills Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, extensive experience can also qualify candidates.

Essential skills include

  • Construction management experience (typically 5+ years, with specialized roles requiring 10–15 years)
  • Knowledge of construction methods and standards, including electrical or commercial contracting 1
  • Proficiency in project management software such as Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word 1
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
