Civil Engineering Technologist (Civil Tech)

Envision Geo is seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Civil Engineering Technologist to support our geomatics, pre-construction, and drafting teams. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with survey data, building accurate 3D models, and contributing to efficient design and construction workflows for our First Nation and industry partners.

You will work closely with survey crews, CAD specialists, and project managers to produce high-quality surfaces, volume calculations, technical drawings, and field data deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

1. Volume Calculations & Quantity Analysis

• Perform earthwork volume analysis using cut/fill, grid, cross-section, and surface-to-surface methods.
• Create, edit, and validate 3D surfaces (TINs), including boundaries, breaklines, and grading elements.
• Prepare monthly or milestone volume reports, stockpile measurements, and material balances.
• Conduct quantity take-offs (QTOs) for construction and pre-construction projects.
• Validate survey data and surfaces for completeness and accuracy.

2. Drafting & CAD Support

• Produce high-quality drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including:
• Topographic maps
• As-built drawings
• Grading plans
• Alignments, profiles, and cross-sections
• Utility and site layout plans
• Process survey field data and convert to usable linework and surface models.
• Maintain and apply CAD standards (layers, blocks, sheet sets).
• Support design revisions, redlining, and preparation of final drawing packages (PDF/CAD).

3. Survey & Field Data Support

• Process GNSS/RTK and total station data from field crews.
• Import, clean, and manage field data using TBC, Civil 3D, or similar platforms.
• Generate topographic surfaces, coordinate files, linework, and as-built reports.
• Assist with control networks, localizations, feature coding, and QA/QC checks.
• Support field teams with data preparation, layout files, calculations, and troubleshooting.

4. Data Management, QA/QC & Reporting

• Follow structured data practices: naming conventions, version control, documentation, and backups.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews for point clouds, surfaces, and CAD drawings.
• Prepare technical reports and summaries, such as:
• Volume calculations
• As-built reports
• Surface comparison and analysis
• Interpret survey notes, legal plans, record drawings, GIS data, and reference files.
• Identify inconsistencies and collaborate with team members to resolve issues.

5. Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with survey, design, and construction teams.
• Communicate field constraints, missing data, or anomalies clearly and professionally.
• Support project managers with documentation, timelines, and deliverables.
• Provide clear markups, sketches, and written explanations when required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Geomatics, or related program.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center (TBC), or similar CAD/survey tools.
• Understanding of GNSS, total stations, coordinate systems, and survey workflows.
• Strong technical aptitude and willingness to learn new tools and workflows.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and data management habits.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, grading plans, and legal survey documents.
• Fluent in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
