Litigation Associate: Civil Litigation Defense

Sweeney & Sheehan, an AV-rated regional defense litigation firm, seeks a highly qualified Litigation Associate for our vibrant Philadelphia, PA office. This role offers the opportunity to join an active and sophisticated civil litigation practice within a collegial environment that values professional growth and advancement. We are looking for an attorney with a proven track record in defense litigation who is ready to take on significant responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

The Associate will manage a diverse caseload focused on civil litigation defense. It requires strong case management skills, including drafting pleadings, conducting complex discovery, taking and defending depositions, developing expert witness strategies, preparing and arguing motions, and active participation in mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

Practice areas include casualty, premises liability, construction, commercial auto, professional liability, general liability and subrogation.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bar Admission: Mandatory admission to the Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey Bar is required.
• Experience: A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of direct, hands-on experience in civil litigation defense is essential. Candidates with more experience are also encouraged to apply.
• Skills: The ideal associate will demonstrate:
• Exceptional analytical abilities for evaluating complex legal issues and developing effective defense strategies.
• Strong legal research and writing skills (e.g., dispositive motions & complex briefs).
• Proven oral advocacy skills for courtroom appearances and depositions.
• A strong work ethic, high level of professionalism, and keen attention to detail.
• The ability to work collaboratively with partners, clients, and claims professionals while managing an independent caseload.
