Civil Technician - FNB Experience

Overview

A Civil Technician provides technical support to civil engineers in the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, water systems, and buildings. The role involves drafting, surveying, site inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and update CAD drawings and technical plans.
  • Assist engineers with design calculations and project layouts.
  • Conduct site surveys, inspections, and measurements to verify project specifications.
  • Test and evaluate construction materials for quality and suitability.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Provide technical support during construction and maintenance phases.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and surveying equipment.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Problem-solving and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
  • Experience in drafting, surveying, or construction support preferred.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and safety standards.
  • Certification as a Civil Engineering Technician may be required depending on region.

Work Environment

  • Split between office-based drafting/design work and field inspections.
  • Collaboration with engineers, contractors, and municipal authorities.
  • Exposure to outdoor conditions during site visits.
