Job Description: Civil Works Design Coordinator (with TAQA/TRANSCO Experience)
1. Objective
To define the role, responsibilities, qualifications, and reporting interfaces of the Civil Works Design Coordinator, ensuring effective management and coordination of all civil design activities within the Civil Works Department. This role serves as a key interface between design, engineering, project management, and construction teams for projects related to TAQA/TRANSCO standards and requirements.
2. Purpose
The Civil Works Design Coordinator is responsible for managing, conducting, and coordinating the civil design activities on behalf of the Civil Works Project Manager, and in liaison with the Electrical/Mechanical (EM) Design Coordinator.
The primary objectives are to:
- Deliver the civil works defined in the contract safely, on time, within budget, and with the required quality.
- Ensure design compliance with TAQA/TRANSCO specifications and standards.
- Optimize design solutions through value engineering and risk management.
3. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate all civil design activities for substations, control buildings, cable trenches, equipment foundations, and other related infrastructure.
- Liaise with TAQA/TRANSCO and internal stakeholders to ensure design approvals and compliance.
- Prepare and review civil design drawings, specifications, and calculation reports in coordination with consultants and design teams.
- Interface with other engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Fire Protection, Structural, and Architectural).
- Ensure design documentation and revisions are properly controlled and aligned with project document management systems.
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and technical clarifications with clients and contractors.
- Support procurement by providing technical inputs for material selection and construction methods.
- Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) and quality standards during design development.
- Monitor design progress, manage deliverables, and report design status to the Project Manager.
- Provide value engineering input to optimize cost and time without compromising on functionality or safety.
- Support site teams with design clarifications and as-built documentation.
4. Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture (or equivalent).
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, Chartered Engineer) are an advantage.
Experience:
- 7–10 years of experience in Civil Works (design and/or construction), preferably with design coordination background.
- Prior experience in TAQA/TRANSCO projects is mandatory.
- Proven experience in high-voltage (HV) substation civil works is highly desirable.
- Experience in multidisciplinary project coordination in an international environment.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of civil design interfaces (Structural, Architectural, HVAC, Fire Protection, Lighting, Drainage, etc.).
- Proficient in design and project management software (AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel, etc.).
- Familiar with international standards and TAQA/TRANSCO design guidelines.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Fluency in English (oral and written); Arabic is an advantage.
