About Company & Role Purpose

The Coffee Quality Manager / Lead Barista is responsible for overseeing all coffee quality and barista standards across the business. This role ensures exceptional product consistency, service excellence, and adherence to brand standards across all outlets. The position combines hands-on leadership with quality control, training, and operational oversight.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

General

Coffee Quality & Standards

· Ensure the highest quality of coffee across all outlets, from bean selection to final cup.

· Develop, implement, and maintain coffee quality standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

· Conduct regular quality checks, tastings, and calibration sessions to ensure consistency.

· Identify and address quality issues promptly, implementing corrective measures as necessary.

Barista Management & Training

· Lead, train, and mentor baristas to maintain exceptional standards in coffee preparation and customer service.

· Design and deliver comprehensive barista training programs for new hires and ongoing training for existing staff.

· Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching to enhance skills and service quality.

· Ensure consistency in skills and service across shifts and locations, fostering a collaborative team environment.

Supplier & Inventory Oversight

· Liaise with roasters and suppliers to maintain coffee bean quality and supply consistency.

· Monitor stock usage and implement strategies to reduce waste, optimizing inventory management.

  • Ensure correct storage and freshness standards are followed to maintain coffee quality.

BACKGROUND, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications

· SCA certifications or equivalent (Barista Skills, Brewing, Sensory).

· Experience working across multiple outlets in a managerial role.

· Background in specialty or third-wave coffee brands.

· Minimum 5–7 years of experience in specialty coffee or premium café operations.

· Proven experience managing or leading barista teams.

· Strong understanding of espresso extraction, brewing methods, and milk texturing.

· Experience in coffee quality control, cupping, and calibration is essential.
