Summary: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for developing, creating, implementing, and managing ASMS communication strategy to increase brand awareness, improve marketing efforts, and drive engagement across all digital and social media platforms. This role combines creativity, strategic thinking, and data-driven decision-making to ensure our online presence supports our school mission and objectives.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Min two (2) years of proven experience creating and managing social media accounts for a brand or organization (e.g. Instagram, Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
- Min two (2) years of proven experience developing, writing, and managing communication content for a brand or organization such as newsletters, website stories, e-mail campaigns, and press releases.
- Previous experience working with adolescents.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proficiency with grammar, spelling, capitalization, sentence structure, etc.
- Knowledge of professional writing guidelines such as AP style.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, and analytics tools.
- Proficiency in content creation tools (e.g., Cap Cut, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software, Hootsuite).
- Primarily on campus but must be available for off-site events or on nights and weekends as required.
- Evening and weekend commitments required during major events.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
- Must be able to provide a portfolio of previous work.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy aligned with brand goals and marketing campaigns.
- Support strategic goals for admissions, donor engagement, alumni engagement, hiring, etc. through social media and other communication content planning, creation, and publishing
- Plan and manage a content calendar across multiple platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube).
- Coordinate with student volunteers to help capture and create content.
- Engage in editing and approval protocols as outlined by the ASMS Development and Outreach Department.
Content Creation & Management
- Create, edit, and publish engaging content (text, images, graphics, videos, stories, and reels) tailored to each platform.
- Ensure all content reflects the company’s brand voice, tone, and style guidelines.
Collaborate with designers, photographers, and other team members for creative assets.
Writing
- Write copy for social media posts, website stories, newsletter features, e-mail campaigns, press releases, website etc.
- Ensure all written content is grammatically correct with no errors.
- Tailor writing to various platforms and audiences.
- Identify strong story opportunities and implement coverage.
Community Engagement
- Monitor social media channels daily, respond to comments and messages, and engage with followers in a timely, professional manner.
Foster relationships and digital connections with influencers, brand advocates, online communities, and ASMS partners (businesses, donors, etc.).
Analytics & Reporting
- Track key performance metrics (reach, engagement, click-through rates, conversions).
Prepare regular reports with insights and recommendations for optimization.
Trends & Innovation
- Stay updated on industry trends, communication styles, platform updates, and emerging tools.
- Experiment with new content formats, campaigns, and technologies to improve engagement.

- The Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457 require criminal history background checks and establish suitability criteria for individuals working in positions that involve children, including public or residential school settings like ASMS (Alabama School of Math and Science).
