Communications Manager

The Communications Manager will oversee, implement, and lead all aspects of Genesee Land Trust’s communications activities. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer and communicator who can develop materials and communicate stories that foster donor and community engagement and support.

This is a temporary full-time position for an initial period of approximately 4 months with potential to become permanent.

Key Responsibilities

· Implements a communications plan and content strategy that supports the organization’s cycle of fundraising and programming and thoughtfully acknowledges individual and community support; increases organizational visibility and connection with key audiences; and broadens awareness of Genesee Land Trust programs, priorities, and impact on lives.

· Uses stories of change and impact stories to demonstrate relevance of conservation, shared values and the impact of our conservation work.

· Communicates in an audience-centered manner framing stories and materials to elevate community members and supporters as change agents.

· Manages editorial calendars for print, electronic, and membership communications.

· Develops content and manages print newsletters, social media, the monthly eNews and other Land Trust collateral including the production of marketing pieces like brochure, postcards, invitations, displays, outreach materials, update letters, video, and special reports as needed.

· Manages Genesee Land Trust’s website to be up-to-date, fresh, and engaging, representative of our mission and values and as a key connection point.

· Builds relationships with local media with media alerts, press releases, pitching stories and responding to media requests.

· Oversees communications contractors, vendors, and volunteers.

· Assists with communications related to special fund- and friend-raising events and gatherings in collaboration with the Fundraising staff.

· Support Fundraising staff through design of annual appeals, special appeals, and online giving while ensuring a strong culture of appreciation for the organization.

· Support Community Engagement staff by collaborating on outreach materials and reviewing flyers, event invitations, and digital posts.

· Supervises part-time Communications Assistant

· Oversees consistent branding and messaging across the entire organization.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

· Interest in Genesee Land Trust’s mission, the outdoors, and local land conservation.

· 4+ years of experience in communications or related field; nonprofit experience a plus.

· Strong writing and graphic design experience with a variety of print and online communications media.

· Demonstrated ability to write in a donor-centered manner; remain current of nonprofit communication trends.

· Exceptional planning, writing, editing and production experience with newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature and other print and electronic publications.

· Strong computer proficiency in a Windows environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues with diverse backgrounds.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills

· Commitment to fostering a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace.

· Demonstrated ability to problem solve and proven willingness to learn.

Pay: $33.00 - $38.00 per hour
