Job Summary
This position is located in the External Affairs Division of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the District of Columbia. The incumbent is responsible for developing external communications, maintaining digital platforms, crafting public messaging, creating and carrying out marketing campaigns, and supporting media engagement to promote the OIG’s efforts to promote transparency and accountability in the District government.
Duties And Responsibilities
Draft and edit press releases, statements, newsletters, craft website content, and manage the OIG’s social media accounts in coordination with the OIG’s management and the Deputy Inspector General for External Affairs. The incumbent will direct responses to media inquiries and support the OIG’s public information campaigns. Ensures accessibility, consistency, and adherence to the OIG’s branding and communications standards.
Assist in developing visual and multimedia content to support the release of the OIG reports and initiatives. Collaborates with the OIG’s internal divisions to convey complex oversight work to public audiences. Develop and maintain the communication strategy for the OIG. Increase the visibility and transparency of OIG within D.C. among community partners, intergovernmental agencies, and the community at large. Build collaborative partnerships and relationships between the OIG and community partners, stakeholders, and intergovernmental agencies. Identifies and uses strategies that can improve OIGs' access to communities through collaboration (i.e., social media).
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications And Education
Demonstrated experience in communications, journalism, or public affairs. Proven ability to translate audit findings, technical or legal information, into clear, engaging content to be distributed to the public. Experience with social media analytics and content management systems. Familiarity with the District of Columbia government or communications for oversight agencies preferred.
Applicants must have one (1) year of Specialized Experience at the next lower grade level.
