A Glimpse of the Job
The Communications Specialist I writes, edits, and assists in the production and design of informational and promotional materials.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Content Creation and Production Assistance
Assists in creating, editing, designing, and producing various communication materials such as brochures, invitations, advertisements, flyers, newsletters, speeches, and reports.
Collaborates on drafting news releases and supports their distribution.
Assists in designing graphic communications pieces within brand guidelines, contributing ideas and executing under guidance.
Supports the development and refinement of templates for digital communications including social media, emails, and websites.
Helps in managing and organizing digital asset libraries.
Contributes to enhancing the multimedia presence of the organization or department through collaborative efforts.
Project Support and Coordination
Supports project timelines and cost tracking, assisting in coordination efforts.
Participates in developing and refining departmental communications plans, providing support and creative input.
Assists in planning and executing projects, focusing on creative implementation under supervision.
Assists in contributing to articles, feature stories, and news releases.
Supports publishing and updating content on organizational platforms and websites as part of a team effort.
Social Media and Digital Content Assistance
Assists in managing social media channels, contributing creative content ideas and engaging with audiences under guidance.
Supports the creation of photography, video, and graphic design for digital and social media content.
Assists with implementing strategies and trends in digital communications and analytics with support.
Works closely with teams to create print and digital support materials.
Assists in contributing to marketing plans through communication and promotional activities.
Supports website and app content updates and participates in web projects with a focus on collaborative execution.
Living Well Programmatic Support
Assists Living Well team with program administration through creative development and implementation of conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops.
Assists Living Well team in reviewing benefit claims data, utilization reports, survey results, and program data to help build a health literacy story to share with campus leadership.
Research industry wellness and engagement programs. Stays abreast and maintains knowledge of wellness and engagement trends, updates, and best practices as it pertains to enhancing employee health literacy.
Takes photos and videos at Living Well events.

Salary: $49,000 annually

Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No prior experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
Two years of job-related experience in creating and editing marketing and communication materials, news stories, promotional emails, strategic writing and developing content for the web.
One year of experience in managing and coordinating projects, especially those related to health and wellness initiatives.
Experience in employee health and wellness program delivery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong written and oral communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage projects.
Ability to work professionally and harmoniously in a service-oriented position.
Self-motivation and ability to manage time efficiently, as well as make quick decisions, with minimal supervision.
Critical thinking skills.
Ability to collaborate successfully with internal and external teams.
Proficiency/mastery with social media channels and emerging social media trends.
Proven ability to create content specifically for social media communication.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, move, and/or carry heavy objects.
Other Requirements and Factors
This position is security sensitive.
This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures.
All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements
This is a forward-facing position that requires on-site availability in College Station, Texas.
Some nights and weekends required.
