FIRM Job Description

Title: Community Engagement Manager

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week, exempt)

Reports to: Executive Director

Purpose: Liaise with the broader Central Valley community in order to strengthen partnerships, communicate accurate and timely information about refugees and immigrants in our region, and bring in significant new resources to support the welcoming and inclusion of immigrants and refugees throughout our community.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Draft and implement an annual Community Engagement Plan
  • Coordinate quarterly meetings with stakeholders and partners around supporting refugee and immigrant neighbors. Coordination includes identifying, scheduling, setting up, taking minutes and tracking follow ups from each meeting.
  • Coordinate, oversee and conduct consistent strength-based and accurate public outreach and education about refugees and how people can support refugees and immigrants throughout the Central Valley.
  • Connect interested people to opportunities to learn more, receive training and then volunteer with FIRM
  • Recruit and supervise a team of staff, interns, and/or clients to consistently engage the broader Fresno community to support refugees and immigrants using stories and facts.
  • Raise funds for programs and tangible resources for supporting refugees and immigrants in Fresno
  • Apply for small grants independently
  • Apply for larger grants collaboratively
  • Seek and develop relationships with new donors
  • Ensure documentation of all donated supplies and furniture, etc according to federal standards
  • Ensure documentation of donated time of volunteers according to federal standards
  • Ensure documentation of donated funds designated to specific populations
  • Learn and effectively explain refugee and immigration policies and systems
  • Promote positive representation of the program and organization to community partners, including government, philanthropy, private sector and CBOs.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with stakeholders from public, private, nonprofit and faith-based partners
  • Support quality organizational communications
  • This may include drafting blog posts, fundraising appeals, public comment letters, editorials, and supporting refugees and FIRM staff to share their own stories
  • Support ethnic media production and other organizational communication strategies
  • Support organizational social media planning and implementation
  • Complete and submit all assigned reports in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers across departments in order to achieve joint objectives
  • Support the Executive Director and other members of the management team of FIRM as a thought partner
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for welcoming and supporting refugees and immigrants
  • Proven experience succeeding in a cross-cultural environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Social Work, Political Science, Sociology, Intercultural Studies, or other related discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience working in the non-profit sector with increasing responsibilities
  • Experience providing training, public speaking and community engagement
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written; including the ability to both accurately assess the appropriateness of and then utilize direct and indirect communication styles
  • Resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build trust and maintain relationships in a cross-cultural environment
  • Ability to generate and maintain trust and rapport with many different audiences
  • Ability to successfully work in faith-based or interfaith contexts
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and public relationships with stakeholders
  • Ability to understand immigration/refugee systems and ongoing changes
  • Strong abilities to strategize towards an organizational objective
  • Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn and support the learning of others
  • Openness to giving and receiving feedback
  • Reliable transportation, insurance coverage and valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, email and social media outlets

Preferred

  • 3+ years experience supervising others or managing grant-funded projects
  • Meaningful experience working with refugees, new arrivals or within the immigration system
  • Meaningful experience with interfaith and intergenerational engagement
  • Experience with stakeholder management, volunteer recruitment, and/or fundraising
  • Fluency in at least one of the languages spoken by the communities that FIRM serves
  • Additional educational experiences beyond BA

Compensation:

  • $70,304 - $75,000 DOE
  • 12 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid vacation (accrual based on experience), 6 sick days per year
  • Cell phone reimbursement stipend of $40/month
  • Mileage reimbursed at the federal reimbursement rate
  • Full medical benefits, life insurance, dental/vision plans available

This is a grant funded-position. FIRM is an at-will employer.
