Tesla is seeking a meticulous and highly organized Component Engineer to join our dynamic team in Palo Alto, CA. As a Component Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our electronic supply chain ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of semiconductor electronic components, integrated circuits, passives, and electromechanical components used in Tesla products. Additionally, as the supply chain matures, the component engineer plays a critical role in helping Tesla refine the supply chain to key supplier partners that share our vision and exit non-performing suppliers.
This role will be part of the component Supply Chain Management (SCM) organization and supporting all Tesla products that utilize an electronic control unit / system and features semiconductor and electromechanical components on Printed Circuit Board Assemblies (PCBA). The key partnering organizations are electronic design engineers, product lifecycle management (PLM) administrators, Electronic Computer Aided Design (ECAD) administrators, supply chain managers (SCMs), and supplier industrialization engineers (SIEs); the component engineer represents a bridge across these functions.
Support PCBA EE component selection, crosses and qualification to make sure that they meet the product design specifications and commercial requirements
Manage the Approved Component List (ACL) in compliance with the Approved Vendor List (AVL) defined by the SCM organization. Bridge between design engineering and supply chain by influencing engineering component selection to be in alignment with SCM strategy
Assist design engineers in selecting, qualifying, approving and documenting release of new components on PLM system. Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) / Change Actions (CAs) to document all changes to components at a Tesla Part Number (TPN), Manufacturing Part Number (MPN) and Bill of Materials (BOM) level
Develop and drive “plan for every part” (PFEP) strategy for SCM team when exiting suppliers to ensure all golden screw components and dependencies are removed from the existing supply chain (New product design, sustaining and service) prior to official exit / ban
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
Good interpersonal skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated capability to coordinate cross functional groups such as Hardware Design, Reliability, Supply Chain Management, Supplier Industrialization and Contract Manufacturing organizations
3+ years of engineering experience in component and commodity engineering, servicing multiple design teams. Technical leadership experience in all types electrical and electromechanical components in boards and systems. Prior working knowledge of all types of electrical commodities is required (e.g. Passives, integrated circuits … etc.)
