Construction Accountant

Overview
Lighting Services, Inc. is looking for a detail-oriented and organized Construction Accountant to perform accounting functions and activities for our national electrical, plumbing and HVAC business. This is the perfect job for someone with 3-5 years of experience who is ready to grow and learn for the future.

This role maintains accurate accounting and manages daily, weekly and monthly tasks. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of general ledger accounting, construction accounting principles and software, be self-directed, and possess excellent communication and prioritization skills.

Job Description

  • Process bi-weekly and weekly payroll, including timecard entry and review, to ensure accurate job labor costing
  • Process accounts receivable transactions, including invoicing (AIA BILLING), posting payments and generating statements of account
  • Process accounts payable transactions including vendor invoices, payment selection, and statement reconciliations
  • Daily, weekly and monthly general ledger and bank account reconciliations
  • Job cost accounting and reconciliation with budget for multiple ongoing jobs using percentage of completion accounting; prepare work-in-process schedules and related journal entries
  • Assist controller with month-end closing and general ledger account reconciliations
  • Assist controller with monthly financial statement and management report preparation
  • Assist controller with preparation and filing of monthly sales tax reports in multiple states
  • Enter job record as projects are awarded including data entry of schedule of values (AIA), and budget estimates
  • Generate purchase orders and maintain vendor and subcontractor payable records including insurance compliance
  • Maintain prevailing wage and taxing authority tables

Qualifications

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in preparing financial statements and account reconciliations in a public accounting or business environment including proficiency in percentage of completion cost accounting
  • 3+ years of experience with sales and use tax reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks Enterprise and Foundation Construction Accounting Software, or similar construction-based accounting platform
  • Strong proficiency in data entry and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be timely and have good attendance
  • MUST have or obtain a Notary license within the first 3 months of being hired

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
