Construction Manager

Our client a nationally expanding retail organization, is seeking a Corporate Construction Manager to provide both strategic leadership and hands-on execution across its growing national footprint.

This role combines corporate real estate strategy with direct construction leadership, owning the full lifecycle of new store openings, remodels, lease administration, and facility operations. The position supports business growth, cost-efficient operations, and long-term portfolio optimization while ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and fully operational.


This is a high-visibility leadership role that partners closely with Legal, Operations, Finance, Procurement, landlords, mall operators, contractors, and specialty vendors nationwide.

The ideal candidate brings strong commercial lease expertise, strategic portfolio management experience, and significant hands-on retail construction knowledge.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Real Estate & Portfolio Management

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive real estate strategy across owned and leased properties nationwide.
  • Oversee lease negotiations in partnership with brokers and legal counsel.
  • Utilize lease management systems to monitor critical dates, compliance, renewals, and negotiation opportunities.
  • Evaluate geographic expansion opportunities and optimize portfolio footprint, including relocations and co-locations.

New Store Construction & Remodel Leadership

  • Own full lifecycle delivery of new store construction projects from lease execution through grand opening.
  • Lead execution of major remodels and capital improvement projects.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects across the U.S., particularly within enclosed mall environments.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, cost tracking, and change order approvals.
  • Create and manage critical path schedules and proactively mitigate delivery risks.
  • Serve as the on-site company representative during construction.
  • Coordinate landlords, mall management, general contractors, specialty trades, and fixture vendors.

Hands-On Construction Leadership

  • Provide direct crew leadership and participate hands-on in construction activities when necessary.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of:
  • Electrical systems
  • Plumbing
  • Mechanical systems
  • Carpentry
  • General construction practices

Vendor & Facilities Cost Management

  • Oversee facility-related expenses across the portfolio, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage vendor contracts related to utilities, maintenance services, equipment, security, and facility supplies.
  • Support sustainability and energy efficiency initiatives.

Facility Maintenance & Best Practices

  • Coordinate facility maintenance and repair obligations in accordance with lease agreements.
  • Partner cross-functionally to establish operational best practices across all locations.


Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of hands-on retail construction experience
  • Proven experience opening multiple retail locations
  • Strong background in commercial lease negotiations and real estate portfolio strategy
  • Experience managing multi-site national retail environments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong negotiation, vendor management, and budgeting skills
  • High level of initiative, ownership mentality, and accountability



Compensation & Benefits:

  • $150,000 - $200,000 base salary (commensurate with experience)
