Position Information


TxDOT is looking for a Construction Recordkeeper I or II, based in Houston, Texas, at the Traffic Systems Construction Office at 6810 Old Katy Rd. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to be part of our project office construction team. As a Construction Recordkeeper, you will be dealing on a daily basis with a wide variety of construction projects related to TxDOT's ITS Traffic Management System, Highway Safety Lighting, Traffic Signals, and School Zones within the District area. This position requires a great spirit of teamwork and a strong willingness to learn. We will train you on all aspects of the job. Position Description


Construction Recordkeeper I

Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork; reviews and modifies contract documents to reflect changes to the original agreement; monitors records to verify compliance with state and federal laws, and determines payments due to the contractor for work completed. Work requires contact with contractors. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.

Construction Recordkeeper II

Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork; reviews and modifies contract documents to reflect changes to the original agreement; monitors records to verify compliance with state and federal laws, and determines payments due to the contractor for work completed. Work requires contact with contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:

Construction Recordkeeper I and II

  • Maintains liaison with construction inspectors and contractor's staff to ensure project records are accurately reflect changes and agreements.
  • May attend pre-construction meetings to instruct contractor's bookkeeper on record-keeping procedures.
  • Monitors contractors' compliance with federal requirements related to Equal Employment Opportunities and wages.
  • Monitors the on-the-job training program and the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and Small Business Enterprise programs; submits required monthly reports.
  • Prepares and submits monthly and final estimates, checks calculations against work log, and estimate form to verify work is completed before payment is made.
  • Prepares and types correspondence, reports, supporting documents, and files.
  • Processes change orders, supplemental agreements, and extra work orders.
  • Maintains filing structure for each construction project within the assigned area.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Construction Recordkeeper I

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: None

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Construction Recordkeeper II

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.

Experience: 1 year in Recordkeeping, bookkeeping, or other related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year-by-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

  • Writing, reviewing, and revising documents to include engineering notes, specifications, standards, and procedures
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps
  • Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
  • Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports
  • Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
