Construction Technician Helper

Job Summary

The Construction Technician Helper installs and brings to life commercial refrigeration and HVAC systems on new construction and renovation projects. This hands-on role is ideal for a skilled problem-solver who thrives in fast-paced environments and takes pride in high-quality work. You’ll collaborate with a strong team to deliver safe, efficient installations that meet customer and company standards.


Key Responsibilities

Installation & Construction Support
  • Install piping and refrigeration equipment, including walk-ins, evaporators, and compressor rack systems.
  • Install, maintain, and verify proper operation of glycol systems and refrigeration rack systems.
  • Set up walk-in boxes and refrigeration fixtures.
  • Prepare job sites and assist with all substation construction activities, including manual labor as required.
Technical Safety
  • Weld and braze using open-flame methods.
  • Handle hazardous chemicals safely and in compliance with regulations.
  • Utilize required hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Attend technical, safety, and manufacturer training as required.
  • Maintain productivity levels in alignment with company standards.
Communication & Professionalism
  • Communicate clearly with store managers, supervisors, contractors, and RSC team members regarding progress, downtime, and system recommendations.
  • Demonstrate reliability, consistency, and accountability in daily work.
  • Approach challenges with curiosity, problem-solving skills, and an innovative mindset.
  • Manage time and resources effectively to control costs and meet commitments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including mechanical and control components.
  • Ability to identify, service, repair, and install HVACR components, including but not limited to:
  • Receivers, oil separators, EPRs
  • Liquid line solenoid valves
  • Suction headers
  • Experience with controllers (E2/Danfoss), including forcing defrosts and pumping down systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to locate leaks and follow proper repair procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills suitable for retail and institutional environments (restaurants, grocery stores, schools, hospitals, military bases).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to complete work tickets, timesheets, and customer documentation accurately and on time.
  • Proficiency using smartphones, tablets, and/or laptops.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing to a team environment.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, high-stress environments.

Schedule & Work Hours

  • A Construction Technician’s typical work week is Monday-Friday from 7:00AM - 4:00pm.
  • Work on an Overtime basis as needed.
  • Be able to take emergency weekend calls on rotational basis.

Travel Requirements:

  • Approximately 90% travel
  • Overnight and multi-day travel may be required

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk, climb (including 28-foot extension ladders), bend, squat, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • Frequent driving to and between job sites.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels and construction environments.

Licenses & Certifications

  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • EPA Universal Certification.
  • Obtain additional licenses and certifications as appropriate.
