Position Overview:

Manage our Area Finance Office in Bear, DE, assuring compliance with the policies and procedures of standard accounting practices. Provide direct support for the receipt and disbursement of remittances from local churches, disbursement of funds allocated to various conference agencies, processing of staff payroll, preparation of financial statements and reports, coordinate the investment of funds, and provide counsel and guidance to local church financial personnel.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Ensure the completion of the monthly accounting closure process including the timely preparation of banking transaction reports and entries.

2. Perform scheduled reconciliations of investment, bank, and general ledger accounts.

3. Prepare, analyze trends, submit documents for management review, and provide presentation of regularly scheduled financial reports.

4. Coordinate the development of and maintain custody of internal control documentation.

5. Consult with IT/software providers and auditors concerning accounting processing and procedures to ensure adequate resources are available to produce and record accurate, timely and valuable financial information.

6. Maintain and coordinate updates to the chart of accounts.

7. Assist in the development of the annual budget and serve as the primary contact to communicate the monthly agency performance reports.

8. Support conference audits to ensure accurate information is provided to the auditors.

9. Interface with the Benefits Administrator to ensure the financial records related to clergy and staff benefit programs are properly maintained.

10. Facilitate training related to internal processes, policies, and financial system upgrades. Assure that staff is adequately trained and knowledgeable of their individual roles and responsibilities.

Special Aspects of the Role:

The Peninsula-Delaware Conference (Pen-Del) is a Christian organization that is focused on promoting the teachings and values of Christ. It is not required that the jobholder be of the Christian faith, but they will be expected to attend staff meetings and events that will include Christian worship services.

The Peninsula-Delaware Conference in Dover, DE and the Baltimore-Washington Conference in Fulton, MD serve in the same Area which enables the sharing of ministries and support services. The Pen-Del Finance Office is in the Red Lion United Methodist Church in Bear, DE. The finance staff consists of a treasurer, controller, sr. accountant, and a part-time clerk.

The job will be based at the Peninsula-Delaware Business Office in Bear, DE and may require travel throughout BWC/PDC Episcopal Area.

Work Experience:

1. A minimum of ten years of progressive operational accounting experience is required.

2. Experience in payroll, accounts payable/receivable.

3. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and financial reporting.

4. A minimum of three years in supervisory or leadership capacity required.

5. Experience in non-profit religious accounting is preferred.

6. Familiarity with the United Methodist Church is a plus.

Education:

Post-secondary education in business or finance supplemented with an accounting designation.

Skills & Knowledge:

1. Proficiency in the utilization of technology such as computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office products required. Familiarity with ShelbyNext and Brick River is a plus.

2. Excellent organizational skills with emphasis on attention to detail required.

3. Proven ability to lead teams devoted to continuous improvement of process and policies.

4. Excellent presentation and written communication skills required.

5. Proven ability to compile financial analysis, resolving discrepancies, and producing accurate and timely reports is required.

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
