Company Summary: Durkin Water & Propane is a family-owned business that serves the consumer and wholesale sectors of the fuel oil, propane, pool and emergency drinking bulk water markets. Located in Brewster, NY, we service Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties in NY as well as Fairfield and parts of Litchfield counties in CT. As a growing business in the energy industry, we are seeking a dedicated professional to join our team.

Position: Controller

Do you love finance? We are looking for an experienced controller who will be responsible for the accurate and timely financial management of the organization. The successful applicant will be responsible for accounting operations, production of periodic financial reports, and maintenance of accounting records.

Responsibilities:

· Develop internal control guidelines, policies, and procedures for budget accounting, cash and credit management, administration and other activities

· Coordinate and direct budgeting, procurement, investment activities, and financial planning

· Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and professional standards for all states served

· Establish and maintain financial controls with the accounting department

· Prepare and present financial reports and risk analysis

· Create budgets and forecasts

· Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures

· Provide support to management, particularly in commercial and financial matters

· Create reports that help senior leadership understand company financials

· Responsible for the company general ledger

· Maintain banking relationships and serve as primary contact for external auditors

Controller Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field

· 5+ years of proven work experience in accounting management or a related field with experience in the fuel service industry a plus

· Understanding of applicable laws and regulations

· Understanding of economic principles, financial markets and banking

· Understanding of financial data analysis and reporting

· Knowledge of payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions

· Ability to deliver quality work on tight deadlines with strong organization and priority setting skills

· Must be able to communicate financial information into sound business language so people of all levels can understand

· Knowledge of state and federal regulation on taxes and reporting

· Deep understanding of finance

· Part of the company’s safety committee charged with establishing safety goals, policies, employee communications and review of all safety mishaps

· Work closely with insurance companies on claims and review of annual renewals

· Ensure compliance with various regulatory agencies such as DEP, DOT and Homeland Security

· Work with department heads to maintain licensing, certification and training requirements and the required record keeping

· Advanced computer skills with knowledge of Cargas, Intacct, Microsoft Office, Excel and Quickbooks

· Knowledge of software programs to help aid decision making such as a CRM package used to track leads, closing rates, insurance claims reporting, and a fleet maintenance reporting system

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
