Job Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food in accordance with restaurant recipes and standards. They work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure high-quality food is prepared, presented, and served to guests. The Cook will maintain cleanliness and organization within the kitchen and ensure food safety practices are followed at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Food Preparation:
  • Prepare food items based on recipes, ensuring consistency and quality in every dish.
  • Set up and stock workstations with all necessary ingredients and cooking equipment.
  • Chop, slice, and dice ingredients, and prepare food components in advance for use during service.

Cooking:

  • Cook food in a timely manner and to the restaurant's specified standards.
  • Monitor food cooking times and temperatures to ensure food safety and quality.
  • Handle grills, fryers, ovens, and other cooking equipment effectively and safely.

Presentation:

  • Ensure that all dishes are presented according to restaurant guidelines and maintain a high standard of food appearance.
  • Plate and garnish food items for a visually appealing presentation.

Food Safety & Cleanliness:

  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and storage techniques.
  • Keep the kitchen and cooking equipment clean and sanitized at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness of workstations and utensils throughout the day.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work efficiently with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations during service hours.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new cooks or kitchen staff.
  • Communicate with the Kitchen Manager or Head Chef regarding food orders, inventory, and kitchen needs.

Inventory & Stocking:

  • Assist in the receiving, unpacking, and storing of food and kitchen supplies.
  • Monitor inventory levels and notify the appropriate person when supplies are low.
  • Assist in maintaining proper stock rotation to avoid food waste.

Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Ensure that kitchen equipment is in good working order and report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils according to health and safety guidelines.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Cook or in a similar role in a restaurant or food service environment.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary certification or degree is a plus.
