Georgia State University Counseling Services Department is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Coordinator OF Training.

The Georgia State University Counseling Services seeks a dedicated and experienced Coordinator of Training to lead its APA-accredited Doctoral Internship in Psychology and Postdoctoral Fellowship training programs. This role provides comprehensive leadership, coordination, and oversight of all aspects of the training programs, ensuring compliance with APA Commission on Accreditation and APPIC standards while fostering a high-quality, developmentally informed training environment.

The Coordinator of Training serves as a key member of the Counseling Services leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping the professional development of doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, and provisionally licensed staff. This position supports GSU’s multi-campus system and advances the university’s commitment to access, equity, student success, and excellence in mental health care.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Administration and Program Leadership

  • Direct and coordinate the APA-accredited Doctoral Internship in Psychology and the Postdoctoral Fellowship program.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with APA Commission on Accreditation, APPIC membership requirements, and national training standards.
  • Oversee accreditation processes, self-studies, annual reports, site visit preparation, and program evaluation.
  • Coordinate recruitment, selection, orientation, and onboarding of interns and fellows.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate training program requirements, didactic seminars, and competency-based learning objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation related to training, accreditation, and intern/fellow progress.
  • Participate in interdepartmental meetings and committees as assigned.


Clinical Supervision and Training

  • Provide clinical supervision to doctoral interns, postdoctoral fellows, and provisionally licensed staff as assigned.
  • Monitor trainee clinical work, documentation, ethical practice, and professional development.
  • Support trainee development in assessment, intervention, consultation, supervision, ethics, multicultural competence, and professional identity.
  • Coordinate and interface with group counseling and training programs to ensure integration with the broader clinical mission.
  • Serve as a consultant to supervisors regarding trainee performance, remediation, and professional readiness.


Consultation and Collaboration

  • Consult regularly with key campus partners regarding student access, services, and mental health care.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments and community providers.
  • Coordinate specialty services and group programming for student populations that benefit from targeted interventions.
  • Represent Counseling Services and the training programs in university-wide initiatives related to mental health and student wellbeing.


Direct Clinical Service and Emergency Coverage

  • Provide short-term individual counseling and crisis stabilization for students as needed.
  • Participate in rotation with counseling staff to provide emergency mental health coverage for the university community.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrated experience in doctoral-level psychology training, supervision, and program administration.
  • Knowledge of APA accreditation standards and APPIC policies and procedures.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and program management skills.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision and evaluation of trainees.
  • Ability to work effectively within a large, multi-campus university system.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems and training documentation.
  • Commitment to multicultural competence, equity, and inclusive training practices.
  • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards governing mental health practice and supervision.


Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • This position has campus-wide responsibility and supports all Georgia State University and Georgia Perimeter College campuses.

Qualifications:

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

PhD. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology and three years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

Licensed psychologist or license-eligible in the State of Georgia, experience providing clinical services and supervision in a university counseling center or comparable setting, experience working with diverse populations and training emerging mental health professionals

Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range
