1. Position Purpose
The Corporate Engineering Manager provides strategic and hands-on leadership across technical aspects of tendering and project delivery within the Construction Platform. This role ensures high-quality technical input and design management across both pre-contract (tendering) and project execution phases. It integrates engineering disciplines into planning, estimating, and operations, ensuring constructability, cost-efficiency, innovation, and compliance with contractual and statutory requirements.
The Corporate Engineering Manager leads a multi-disciplinary team responsible for compliant and coordinated designs under Design & Construct delivery models.
2. Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
-
Lead technical support across all tenders and live projects, from early methodology development through to construction execution and completion.

Drive innovation through modern construction techniques, DfMA, and digital design integration.

Support the Estimating Manager with technical inputs, construction methodology, site logistics, and risk mitigation strategies during tendering.

Develop and oversee construction methodology documents, including staging, sequencing, and temporary works concepts.
Design Management (D&C Tenders and Projects)

Lead the management of external designers during pre-contract and project delivery phases.

Ensure timely production of coordinated design deliverables aligned with contract scope, program, and cost targets.

Establish and oversee design management protocols, internal design reviews, and interface coordination (structure, architecture, services, etc.).

Ensure alignment of design with planning approvals, authority requirements, and client expectations.
Planning & Temporary Works
-
Oversee the integration of construction methodology and engineering inputs into project schedules, in collaboration with Planning Managers.

Ensure best-practice temporary works engineering—safe, efficient, cost-effective—and compliant with applicable standards.

Monitor technical risk & provide engineering solutions for challenging construction sequences / constraints.
Revit/CAD, 4D, and Construction Technology

Direct & manage Revit/CAD teams for 2D & 3D documentation supporting tender and construction phases.

Champion 4D planning and digital engineering platforms to enhance visualisation, sequencing, and stakeholder communication.

Oversee application & standardisation of digital construction tools (survey equipment, drones, data capture, etc.)
Collaboration & Integration

Work closely with the Estimating Manager to align engineering with bid competitiveness and deliverability.

Collaborate with Operations Managers and Project Directors to integrate engineering with on-site execution planning.

Coordinate with the Controls and Planning team to ensure commercial and contractual implications of design are considered and addressed.

Ensure technical alignment with corporate policies, client requirements, and project-specific approvals.
Compliance, Systems & Governance

Establish and enforce compliance with the company's Information Management System (IMS) for all design and engineering processes.

Ensure proper documentation, control, and traceability of engineering deliverables and decisions.

Lead technical reviews, risk assessments, and gateway approvals for engineering deliverables at each project phase.
Team Development & Resourcing

Manage and mentor a multi-disciplinary engineering team across the platform.

Forecast and allocate technical resources for tenders and project support.
-
Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous technical development.
3. Experience Requirements
-
15+ years’ experience in engineering leadership roles within Tier 1 construction contractors or large-scale infrastructure firms.
-
Proven success in managing technical functions in D&C or EPC delivery environments.
-
Deep experience in design management & working with external designers on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.

Strong understanding of constructability, temporary works, methods engineering & digital construction tools.
-
Demonstrated involvement in complex bid and project delivery cycles (>A$100M).

5. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline (required).

Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent status (preferred).

Postgraduate qualifications in Construction Management or Project Delivery (desirable).

Certification in BIM, 4D planning, or Digital Engineering tools (advantageous).
