This is a grant funded limited position with an expected end date of December 31, 2026, with the possibility of an extension. The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The expected starting pay for this position is $22.50 an hour. Who We Are
The Mission of the
Denver District Attorney's Office
is to professionally and completely prosecute crimes and investigate potential crimes on behalf of the people of the State of Colorado, and in doing so, do justice, advocate for victims' rights and advise and consult in the deterrence and prevention of crime; to ensure the open, evenhanded and humane administration of justice. The office employs approximately 120 attorneys and 180 support staff, who are responsible for more than 6,000 felony and 12,000 misdemeanor prosecutions annually. The elected District Attorney is the chief law enforcement officer in the City and County of Denver and is responsible for the prosecution of violations of Colorado State Laws. The current Denver District Attorney is John Walsh. We are currently recruiting for a Crime Victim Compensation Specialist.
Location
In this position you can expect to work on site at the Republic Plaza building located at 370 17th St., Suite 5300 Denver, CO 80202, Monday through Friday from 8:00AM - 5:00PM.
What You’ll Do
We are currently seeking a Crime Victim Compensation Specialist who can perform secretarial duties utilizing legal terminology, procedures, and documents. The Crime Victim Compensation Specialist position will be responsible for:
- Working with limited supervision and performs a number of duties related to processing Crime Victim Compensation claims and providing assistance to crime victims and service providers
- Duties assigned are generally complex: The employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence; Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, program policies and procedures, accuracy, completeness and conformance to standard practice and precedent
- Communication is with the public, community partners, co-workers and other members of the District Attorney’s staff; Interactions frequently occur with who are in crisis or other stressful situations and requires discretion and judgment as well as courtesy, tact, and empathy
- Employee reviews information for completeness and evaluates the need for additional documentation
- Monitors and tracks receipt of the information and enters data completely and accurately
- Answers telephone inquiries from the public, provides referral to community agencies, and responds to inquiries from community agencies and service providers
- Reading and summarizing police reports
- Explaining Crime Victim Compensation program policies to victims and service providers
- Processing payments and data entry
- Other duties, as assigned or requested

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- Data entry skills
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Knowledge of medical billing
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask and do two more tasks simultaneously
- Must be comfortable with answering phones
- Exceptional customer service
- Ability to read police reports and speak to victims of violent crime
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Experience Requirement: Two (2) years of clerical experience.
- Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
