Job Description – Critical Care Physician

Position Title: Critical Care Physician
Department: Critical Care / Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Reporting To: Medical Director
Location: Hosur

Position Summary

The Critical Care Physician is responsible for the comprehensive management of critically ill patients in the ICU, ensuring high standards of patient care, safety, and outcomes. The role includes acute clinical management, multidisciplinary coordination, patient and family communication, and adherence to evidence-based critical care protocols.

Key Responsibilities

1. Patient Care & Clinical Management

  • Provide round-the-clock medical care to critically ill patients admitted to the ICU.
  • Conduct initial assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and stabilization of patients with life-threatening conditions.
  • Formulate and implement evidence-based treatment plans, including ventilatory support, hemodynamic management, and advanced monitoring.
  • Lead code blue, rapid response, and resuscitation efforts.

2. Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Collaborate with specialists, surgeons, anaesthetists, and nursing teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide clinical guidance to residents, ICU nurses, and paramedical staff.
  • Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, and allied departments for timely diagnostics and interventions.

3. Monitoring & Procedures

  • Perform advanced ICU procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, arterial line placement, dialysis catheter insertion, and bronchoscopy (if trained).
  • Monitor patient progress, interpret investigations, and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Ensure strict infection control and patient safety practices in the ICU.

4. Communication & Documentation

  • Provide regular updates to patient families with empathy, clarity, and transparency.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records, including daily progress notes and treatment plans.
  • Participate in morbidity/mortality discussions and case presentations.

5. Training, Research & Quality Assurance

  • Mentor and train junior doctors, nurses, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and accreditation activities (e.g., NABH/JCI).
  • Stay updated with the latest advances in critical care medicine and contribute to research/publications if applicable.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: MBBS with MD / DNB in General Medicine / Pulmonology / Anaesthesiology / Emergency Medicine with Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine (FICCM) preferred.
  • Certification: BLS and ACLS mandatory; FCCS/ECMO training desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum 2–5years post-qualification experience in Critical Care/ICU, preferably in a multispecialty hospital.
