Cyber Crime Analyst, Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Unit

The Queens County District Attorney's Office is seeking a Cyber Crime Analyst for its Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Unit. This unit investigates all matters of criminal activity related to cyber enabled fraud, computer intrusion, phishing, identity theft, the purchase, sale, production and transfer of child sexual abuse material; online sales of illicit goods and services, darknet marketplaces, and all crimes involving the use of digital assets, such as cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens. The Cybercrime and Cryptocurrency Unit partners with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.

The analyst will work alongside prosecutors and investigators from the inception of criminal investigations to provide analytical support on matters ranging from reviewing device extractions, phone and internet records, financial analysis and general intelligence analysis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting detailed analysis of business records, bank records, credit card records, and other financial records related to ongoing investigations and prosecutions. Research, compile, and analyze complex information/data regarding financial information, including cryptocurrency records.
  • Review and compile digital evidence from device extractions; review and compile relevant digital evidence from iCloud accounts, Google account, and email accounts; and review telecommunications, social media, and internet service provider records, etc., that are related to active investigations.
  • Assist attorneys in preparation for court proceedings and testify at court proceedings about analysis and findings as necessary.
  • Create and maintain multiple Excel spreadsheets, visual representations and flow charts of relevant data points and intersections, and presentation materials, such as PowerPoint, for use in court proceedings.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor, Bureau Chief and Executive Assistant District Attorney.
Preferred Education and Qualification Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college is required, preferably with two years of experience in data science, mathematics/statistics, computer science, or criminal justice, or the equivalent education and experience.
  • Formal intelligence analysis training and/or certification preferred.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables; charts; functions; etc.) required.
  • Candidates must be highly skilled in standard operating systems and software (Windows, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Strong skillset in data mapping, including geocoding; photo editing; and a fast learner regarding new technology tools and software. Experience using Photoshop; ArcGIS; i2 Analyst Notebook; Palantir; etc. a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple challenging assignments; detailed oriented with superior organizational, analytical, writing and communication skills.
  • Capable of building institutional relationships with community residents and organizations, police, and other law enforcement agencies.
  • An understanding of general practices related to legal records management, data protection, and privacy/confidentiality.
Application Information:
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000; commensurate with experience
