Dental Assistant

Job Summary

Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments and materials, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
  • Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays while maintaining strict adherence to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques.
  • Manage patient records efficiently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and coding.
  • Provide chairside assistance by handling dental instruments, suctioning, and ensuring patient comfort throughout treatments.
  • Monitor vital signs and assist with medical imaging procedures when necessary, especially in pediatric or medically complex cases.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist and maintaining organized medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience working in a dental clinic environment with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
  • Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while adhering to safety standards; certification in radiography is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pediatric dentistry principles and experience assisting with pediatric patients is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages and collaborate with the dental team.
  • Certification or training in dental assisting, including chairside assisting, medical terminology, and medical coding is highly desirable.
