General Definition of Work

Performs work responding to calls for service, ensuring the safety of crew members and patients, assisting citizens with medical needs, operating assigned vehicles and equipment, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Captain.

Essential Functions

  • Responds to emergency calls for medical and technical fire rescue emergencies; provides emergency medical attention alongside a paramedic according to national and state standards.
  • Responds to non-emergent requests for medical and nonmedical assistance as needed.
  • Drives assigned vehicles and operates various equipment.
  • Maintains all equipment and the station at high levels of functionality through maintenance, cleaning, and performing minor repairs.
  • Trains on fire and medical scenarios.
  • Ensures safety of others at all times; assesses the scene; recognizes hazardous or potential threats before and upon arrival.
  • Maintains and fosters a strong relationship between the community and first responders by varying forms of community outreach programs.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and less than one year of experience and possession of the minimum certifications required to be hired or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications

  • Possession of Firefighter 1 and 2 Certifications from the Missouri Department of Public Safety (DPS) upon hire.
  • Possession of Emergency Medical Technician - Basic License in the State of Missouri and National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) upon hire.
  • Possession of Hazmat Operations and Awareness Certifications from the Missouri DPS upon hire.
  • May require possession of, or ability to obtain, specific licenses and/or certifications depending on departmental assignment.
  • A valid driver’s license in the State of Missouri.

Pay range from $16.14 per hour up to $21.82 per hour, plus a generous benefit package.
