Digital Communication Consultant

Islamabad, Pakistan

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Content Production and Creative Development
  • Design and produce high-quality visual content including graphics, illustrations, carousels, GIFs, infographics, and digital layouts for social media, campaigns, and donor visibility, using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other relevant design software.
  • Capture and edit original photography and videography from UNICEF-supported events, activities, and field missions in line with ethical storytelling and brand guidelines.
  • Conceptualize and produce multimedia content (videos, reels, animations, stories) that highlight programme impact, amplify children’s voices, and support advocacy goals.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the social media editorial calendar, aligning content with international days, campaigns, key events, and emerging trends.
  • Draft clear, compelling, and audience-appropriate copy for social media captions, scripts, and longer-form web stories, aligned with UNICEF’s style and tone.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to manage production timelines and ensure quality control for all digital assets.
  • Support the promotion and dissemination of UNICEF content across platforms and partners.
  • Community Management and Digital Engagement
  • Support day-to-day management of UNICEF Pakistan’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok), including scheduling posts, uploading content, and moderating comments/messages.
  • Apply community engagement best practices to build positive interactions, increase participation in discussions, and grow a supportive online presence for children’s rights.
  • Monitor public conversations, trending topics, and current events to identify opportunities for digital response and real-time engagement.
  • Coordinate with the Digital Communication Specialist to ensure that responses are timely, accurate, and aligned with UNICEF’s positioning.
  • Monitoring, Insights, and Performance Reporting
  • Track social media and content performance using in-built platform analytics, Hootsuite, and other tools, and provide regular reports on reach, engagement, and growth.
  • Extract digital insights to inform content strategy, adapt creative direction, and optimize engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate campaign performance and audience behavior to strengthen digital advocacy efforts and improve impact.
  • Knowledge Management and Asset Organization
  • Support the organization and maintenance of digital assets including photos, videos, and graphics, ensuring accurate tagging and documentation.
  • Upload final content to relevant internal platforms including SharePoint, WeShare, and YouTube, following consent and archival protocols.
  • Participate in weekly content planning meetings with the Digital Communication team to align upcoming priorities and campaign moments.
  • Assist in maintaining content calendars, message banks, and updated communication materials for internal use.


Education/Experience/Language requirements:

Education:

A university degree in Communication, Journalism, International Development, or any related field, including Marketing, Media Sciences, or Advertising, with a focus on digital and social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn).

Experience:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years of professional and progressive work experience in communication, journalism, or digital content production, with a focus on public advocacy, digital marketing, or campaign development for social impact.
  • Demonstrated technical skills in graphic design, photography, video filming and editing, and use of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other relevant design and editing tools.
  • Proven ability to write compelling copy for both short-form (social media) and long-form (stories, blogs, scripts) formats.
  • Experience in using social media insights, platform analytics, and social listening tools to inform content planning and improve digital performance.
  • Experience working directly with young people or co-creating content with adolescents (e.g., Reels, TikToks, youth-led campaigns) is an asset.
  • Prior experience with UNICEF, UN agencies, or international NGOs is an asset.


Language Requirement:

Excellent command of written and spoken English and Urdu is essential.

Skills and Competencies :

  • Demonstrates strong understanding of web and social media platforms, their reach, and how to tailor content for diverse audiences, especially in the context of Pakistan.
  • Highly proficient in content development, editing, and visual storytelling, including graphic design, photography, and video production.
  • Ability to think creatively and develop innovative communication solutions in fast-paced or evolving digital environments.
  • Skilled in writing, proofreading, and editing clear, engaging, and audience-focused copy in both English and Urdu, with sensitivity to tone and context.
  • Demonstrates the ability to clearly communicate ideas and information in both written and verbal form.
  • Strong understanding of community engagement, online moderation, and responsive digital communication practices.
  • Familiarity with knowledge management tools and best practices for organizing and archiving communication assets is an asset.
  • Prior experience working with a UN agency, NGO, or international development organization is an asset.
  • Understanding of child rights and ethical considerations in the use of images, stories, and voices of children is essential.
  • Highly organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team structure.
  • Specific technical skills:
    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects), Canva, and related design and editing tools.
    • Experience using Hootsuite, native platform insights, and social media analytics tools for monitoring and reporting.
