Direct Support Professional

Job Overview

Duties

  • Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting to ensure comfort and dignity.
  • Monitor patient health by taking vital signs, observing changes in condition, and reporting findings accurately.
  • Support medication administration following care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to maintain confidentiality.
  • Prepare nutritious meals and assist with cooking to promote healthy eating habits tailored to individual needs.
  • Operate equipment such as Hoyer lifts and manage heavy lifting tasks safely to prevent injury.
  • Conduct patient observation and monitor behavior to identify any concerns or changes requiring intervention.
  • Maintain a clean environment by performing light housekeeping duties in accordance with health standards.
  • Document care activities meticulously, including progress notes, incident reports, and updates to care plans.
  • Engage in group home activities or community outings that foster social interaction and community integration.
  • Provide specialized care such as Alzheimer’s/dementia support or hospice care as needed.
  • Follow all safety protocols during patient care procedures and emergency situations like CPR or first aid responses.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or in assisted living environments is highly desirable.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid is required; ongoing training in HIPAA compliance is preferred.
  • Strong observational skills for patient monitoring and recognizing health or behavioral changes.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting and assisting with mobility using equipment like Hoyer lifts.
  • Knowledge of medication administration procedures following care plans accurately and safely.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with team members, clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Experience in home health or long-term care settings is a plus; familiarity with nursing home operations is beneficial.

Pay: $22.00 - $23.00 per hour
