Director, Human Resources

Overview

Reporting to the CFO, HLK is seeking an experienced and hands-on leader to oversee all aspects of human resources. This individual will be responsible for managing and strengthening the agency’s HR function, ensuring effective execution across recruiting, performance management, employee relations, and HR operations.

The Director of Human Resources will work closely with agency leadership to implement talent-related initiatives and provide informed perspective on people-related decisions. This role requires a balance of leadership, sound judgment, and strong execution, with an emphasis on building consistency, clarity, and accountability across the organization.

This position will be based in St. Louis, with an expectation of in-office presence at least three days per week.

Core Responsibilities

HR Leadership & Execution

  • Lead the day-to-day HR function, ensuring consistent and effective execution across all areas
  • Partner with agency leadership to support and implement talent-related initiatives
  • Bring structure, clarity, and accountability to HR processes and decision-making

Performance Management & Employee Development

  • Lead and administer the agency’s performance review process, ensuring consistency and clarity across teams
  • Support managers in setting expectations, delivering feedback, and addressing performance issues
  • Help identify development opportunities and support employee growth

Recruiting & Talent Acquisition

  • Oversee and improve recruiting processes to ensure efficient and effective hiring
  • Partner with hiring managers to define roles, expectations, and candidate profiles
  • Support hiring decisions and ensure a consistent candidate experience

Employee Experience & Relations

  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers on employee relations matters
  • Lead initiatives to support employee engagement and retention
  • Conduct stay interviews and exit interviews to gather actionable insights

Compensation, Benefits & Compliance

  • Manage benefits administration and support compensation review processes
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations
  • Coordinate with external partners on legal, benefits, and risk-related matters

HR Operations

  • Maintain and improve HR processes, policies, and systems
  • Oversee employee records and ensure all employment requirements are met

Analyze data and trends to inform recommendations and improve HR practices

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of progressive human resources experience
  • Experience operating as a senior HR generalist or HR lead within a professional services environment preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple HR functions with consistency and attention to detail
  • Strong judgment and ability to navigate employee and organizational issues effectively
  • Experience supporting performance management and employee development processes
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

Target salary: $110k-$120k
