We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Resident Services to lead clinical and resident care operations within our premier senior living community offering Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care services. This executive leadership role is responsible for ensuring exceptional care delivery, regulatory compliance, and an elevated resident experience in a high-performing, hospitality-driven environment.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate clinical leader with strong operational expertise, a proven regulatory track record, and a passion for serving older adults and their families. An active California RN license is strongly preferred.

Position Summary

The Director of Resident Services provides administrative and clinical oversight for Assisted Living and Memory Care operations, ensuring compliance with California Title 22 RCFE regulations while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and person-centered care. This role partners closely with Executive Leadership to maintain a “Survey Ready” community at all times and to uphold the highest standards in quality, safety, and service.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Oversee daily health and wellness operations for Assisted Living and Memory Care.
  • Ensure accurate medication management, physician order implementation, and coordination of care.
  • Provide clinical guidance and supervision to licensed and unlicensed staff.
  • Promote best practices in geriatric nursing and dementia care.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain 100% “Survey Ready” status in accordance with California Title 22, Division 6 RCFE regulations.
  • Lead preparation and response for state surveys, ensuring minimal or no deficiencies.
  • Oversee documentation standards, medication audits, and compliance reporting.

Memory Care Excellence

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate specialized dementia programming.
  • Ensure evidence-based cognitive stimulation, behavioral support strategies, and person-centered care.
  • Train and mentor staff in dementia best practices and compassionate communication techniques.

Resident Assessment & Care Planning

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-admission and ongoing functional/acuity assessments.
  • Determine appropriate levels of care and develop Individualized Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Lead interdisciplinary care conferences and collaborate with families and providers.

Staff Management & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor LVNs, Medication Technicians, and Caregivers.
  • Manage staffing schedules to meet or exceed state-mandated staffing ratios.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Drive performance management, coaching, and professional development initiatives.

Family Liaison & Communication

  • Serve as a trusted resource for families navigating the aging process.
  • Lead care conferences and provide education and emotional support.
  • Ensure transparent and proactive communication regarding resident care.

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

  • Lead Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Oversee incident reporting, safety protocols, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Implement continuous improvement efforts to enhance resident outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Licensure: Active California RCFE Administrator Certificate. Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (strongly preferred).
  • Certification: Current RCFE Administrator Certificate.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of administrative leadership experience in a senior living community, including prior experience as a Resident Services Director or equivalent leadership role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
  • Regulatory Expertise: In-depth knowledge of California Title 22, Division 6 RCFE regulations.
  • Survey Success: Demonstrated history of successful state surveys with minimal or no deficiencies.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 (Based on licensure and experience)
