Job Summary:
The Director of Road Freight Management and Pricing Operations is responsible for leading and managing the road freight division, ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, and strategic growth. This individual will drive pricing strategies, optimise logistics and transportation networks, and implement best practices to improve cost-effectiveness while ensuring customer satisfaction. The role requires a blend of strategic thinking, leadership, and operational expertise.
Key Responsibilities:1. Strategic Leadership:
- Lead the road freight operations team, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure the successful execution of the company’s freight and logistics strategy.
- Develop and implement long-term strategies for road freight management to improve operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, transport providers, and third-party vendors.
2. Pricing Strategy and Optimization:
- Develop and implement dynamic pricing models based on market trends, customer demands, and competitive landscape.
- Work closely with sales and commercial teams to align pricing strategies with overall business objectives and ensure profitability.
- Continuously monitor and analyze freight market conditions, competitor pricing, and fuel trends to ensure competitive pricing structures.
- Lead negotiations with key customers and freight partners to ensure favorable rates and service levels.
3. Operational Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the road freight division, ensuring timely, efficient, and cost-effective transportation solutions.
- Ensure adherence to industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
- Implement process improvements to optimize routes, reduce costs, and enhance the efficiency of the transportation network.
- Manage fleet operations, including vehicle procurement, maintenance, and driver management.
4. Financial Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for road freight operations and pricing activities.
- Monitor key financial metrics (e.g., cost per mile, profit margins, fuel efficiency) and identify areas for cost reduction or revenue generation.
- Ensure that pricing strategies align with financial goals, ensuring profitability while maintaining competitive rates.
5. Team Management and Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of road freight professionals, including managers, analysts, and support staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability within the team.
- Drive employee engagement and professional development, ensuring the team stays up-to-date with industry best practices and emerging trends.
6. Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of key performance metrics for road freight operations and pricing.
- Use data-driven insights to make informed decisions about route optimization, cost-saving opportunities, and pricing adjustments.
- Present operational and financial performance to senior leadership and other stakeholders, highlighting key challenges and opportunities.
7. Customer and Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with key clients to ensure high levels of service and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with third-party logistics providers (3PLs) and vendors to ensure reliable, high-quality services at competitive rates.
- Resolve any operational or service issues with customers and suppliers in a timely and effective manner.
Qualifications:Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- MBA or equivalent advanced degree is a plus.
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in road freight, logistics, or transportation management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record of success in pricing strategy development and road freight optimization.
- Strong understanding of supply chain management, transportation networks, and logistics operations.
- Experience managing teams, setting performance objectives, and driving results.
Skills:
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of road freight pricing models, transportation cost analysis, and industry regulations.
- Proficiency in logistics management software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills.

Certifications (Preferred but not required):
- Certification in Transportation or Logistics (e.g., CLTD - Certified in Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
