This position is in responsible for engaging with our aging population in the community. Helping organize social gatherings, supporting Active Older Adult Classes, and direct Responsibility for day-to-day operations of the Y-OPAS Program (Outreach Program for Aging Seniors). The Y-OPAS program is a volunteer program that aims to meet the needs of the growing senior population with the goal of enabling seniors to maintain independent living in their own homes. Volunteer services include transportation, shopping & errands, caregiver relief, friendly visiting & phoning and much more all for no cost to the senior.


RESPONSIBILITIES OF A DIRECTOR OF SENIOR SERVICES:

  • Responsible for the recruitment and management of Y-OPAS volunteers and assignments.
  • Develop volunteer recruitment and retention plans and processes to ensure volunteers are continually being recruited, trained and retained.
  • Attract volunteers using various sources such as social media networks and referrals.
  • Organize volunteer events and coordinate with the branch to represent the YMCA at community events.
  • Develop a communication plan to keep volunteers and clients informed and engage.
  • Enroll and monitor Y-OPAS clients ages 65 and older.
  • Conduct in-home needs assessments, assessing for physical, emotional and social needs.
  • Provide care management support for clients that includes working with families.
  • Input client information and case notes in system after each interaction.
  • Gain knowledge of community resources and refer clients as appropriate.
  • Develop relationships with community groups, businesses and organizations to further the support the wellbeing of seniors in the area.
  • Actively engage as a collaborative team member by attending meetings, contributing ideas, and support peers to achieve shared goals.
  • Supporting Membership of the Branch, in a capacity that helps engage members.
  • Planning weekly/monthly events to engage members.
  • Helping Support Active Older Adults Classes to keep members healthy!
  • Support Member Services Department in a capacity that aligns with location needs.
  • Will provide transportation and other support services to clients as needed.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A DIRECTOR OF SENIOR SERVICES:

  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience working with or recruiting volunteers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to address difficult situations and conflicts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Must have good interpersonal, public relations and communications skills, including the ability to make oral presentations.
  • Outgoing positive personality enjoys speaking to people.
  • Innate desire to drive results to achieve goals.
  • Strong self-starter and initiator with a passion for customer service and relationship building.
  • Excellent computer skills and experience with standard business software i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to achieve recruitment goals.
  • Bi-lingual, English, and Spanish language, a plus.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and ability to provide transportation and other support services to clients as needed.
