The Director Technical Manufacturing is a high-level leader that will be responsible for the leadership and management of Technical Manufacturing operations. This role involves driving operational efficiency, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products.
Create a maintenance culture that drives safety
- Foster commitment to all safety initiatives, mental models, and complies with all safety rules, procedures and programs.
- Identify hazards, develop solutions and implement safety improvements autonomously.
- Visibly adhere to Mohawk’s Core Values and communicate all departmental goals.
- Segregate and prioritize safety action items above other work orders
Hire, manage, coach and develop a high performing maintenance team that meets agreed objectives, delivers best practice results, adds value and pursues continuous improvements
- Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice maintenance vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
- Effectively delegate any maintenance issues to be resolved on each shift and small projects to the right skills in the team, planning and managing effective works
- Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Maintenance activities
- Produce written reports and make presentations
- Develop continuous training and development program to assess, identify and build correct team skillsets
- Provide technical expertise to the team
- Manage contractors on site to ensure they meet legal and company requirements
- Institutes a fix it right the first-time mind set in the department.
- Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
- Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments
- Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems
Drive asset reliability
- Ensure that the facilities and machinery used to produce run to their maximum efficiency and output. This includes reliability activities to include preventative and predictive maintenance, managing breakdowns of mechanical, and electrical equipment including software.
- Manage the maintenance budget to include parts, external labor, internal labor, and recurring costs.
- Manage the CMMS to be effective in driving maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with operations leaders to set work priorities, work on the right things at the right time.
- Schedule both internal and external work(s) maximizing planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime
- Develop a Planned & Predictive Maintenance schedule, ensure full preventative maintenance is carried out, plan in missed maintenance activities, and lead the team to deliver effective reliability support.
- Establish maintenance KPI’s that are leading indicators for lagging metrics such as uptime and cost. Establish tracking mechanisms to manage performance of KPI’s and report out on them regularly.
Minimize breakdown recovery
- Manage the team to ensure machine availability, reactively managing dysfunctional machinery with the shift management
- Perform RCFA to resolve problems and ensure they do not happen again.
- Develop job plans to improve task effectiveness.
- Deploy fast action response teams with clear guidance and direction during upset conditions
- Track history of causes and implement knowledge share to prevent repeat occurrences
Maximize internal customer service and relationships
- Work as part of the Management team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing maintenance activities to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements delivery in line with company and customer requirements
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance. Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the maintenance strategy
- Communicate with other departments, internal customers, suppliers and other service providers
Proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere. Support encourage and develop team and take ownership for team cohesion
Maintain Budget and control conversion cost
- Develop clear accountability for maintenance material spend combined with a strategy to manage expenditure
- Manage the process of disposal of obsolete machinery, plant and equipment from gaining agreement to write off to physically removing it and its safe and lawful disposal
- Prepare the annual Maintenance budget and forecasts and all Capital Expenditure proposals as well as ensuring compliance with legal standards. Manage the budget from identification to completion of projects
Deploy and optimize maintenance support systems
- Optimize ERP/CMMS tools
- Manage systems and equipment data storage and maintain high levels of standards and accuracy
- Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials and advise others of any impact
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years of management experience
