Summary
Operates two-way radio to maintain effective communication between bus drivers and the transportation office; performs other activities to support office operations.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate.

Some experience in bus transportation operations and/or general office administration.

Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.

Knowledge of radio and phone communication procedures.

Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment.

Ability to operate a two-way radio.

Ability to speak clearly.

Proficiency in the use of technology.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Dispatch-related experience (such as dispatch in school or mass transportation, commercial trucking, or 911/emergency services).
Major Duties/Essential Functions
- Provides a communication link between bus drivers and transportation office(s) to monitor incidents related to school bus operations, such as accidents, breakdowns, etc.

Informs appropriate supervisory staff of known or possible issues and provides follow-up communications.

In absence of supervisory staff, provides guidance and assistance to drivers to resolve problems, in accordance with established procedures.

Communicates, usually by telephone, with outside local and state agencies to alert them to situations needing corrective action.

Receives fuel-level reports from school fueling sites and notifies the appropriate agency of the need for fuel.

Coordinates installation and repair of two-way radios on buses and or in central offices.

Prepares paperwork and communicates bus radio installation and/or repair schedule, as required.

Serves as the office receptionist and directs visitors and switchboard calls, taking and delivering messages as appropriate.

Compiles, maintains, and distributes school bus routing books and rosters of school buses and drivers for assigned office.

Maintains school bus driver and attendant employment records, updating data in files and/or database and as instructed, prepares personnel action forms and sends and follows through the appropriate approval process.

Maintains supply inventory and prepares supply orders when necessary.

Performs other tasks within the general scope of the position to include providing backup support to other office staff.

Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
