Dispatcher

Position Summary

The Head Dispatcher at Detroit Disposal is responsible for overseeing all daily dispatch operations, ensuring efficient routing, timely service delivery, and clear communication between drivers, customers, and internal teams. This role plays a critical part in maximizing route efficiency, minimizing downtime, and maintaining high service standards across waste collection, hauling, and disposal operations.

Key Responsibilities

Dispatch Operations Management

• Supervise and coordinate daily dispatch activities for all drivers and routes
• Develop and optimize routing plans to improve efficiency, reduce fuel costs, and meet service windows
• Monitor real-time route progress and adjust schedules as needed due to delays, traffic, or service changes

Team Leadership

• Lead and manage dispatch staff to ensure consistent performance and accountability
• Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers regarding route issues, safety concerns, and service updates
• Foster a strong communication culture between dispatch, drivers, and operations

Customer & Service Coordination

• Ensure all scheduled pickups, deliveries, and service requests are completed accurately and on time
• Work closely with customer service and sales teams to handle special requests, missed pickups, or escalations
• Maintain high customer satisfaction through proactive communication and problem-solving

Operational Efficiency & Reporting

• Track key performance metrics (route completion rates, missed stops, driver productivity)
• Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements
• Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management review

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure all dispatching practices align with DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards
• Coordinate with maintenance to ensure vehicles are properly scheduled for service without disrupting operations

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of dispatch or logistics experience (waste management or transportation industry preferred)
• Proven leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of routing software, GPS tracking systems, and dispatch tools
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills in fast-paced environments
• Strong communication and organizational abilities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Preferred Skills

• Experience in waste disposal, recycling, or hauling operations
• Familiarity with local Detroit-area routes and regulations
• Ability to analyze data and optimize route performance

Working Conditions

• Fast-paced, high-pressure environment requiring quick decision-making
• May require early mornings, evenings, or weekend availability depending on operational needs

This role is essential to keeping Detroit Disposal’s operations running smoothly, ensuring that both customers and drivers are supported through efficient, organized, and responsive dispatch leadership.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
