Job Overview

The Transportation Dispatcher plays a key role in ensuring safe, timely, and efficient transportation services for community members. This position coordinates schedules for volunteer drivers, transit vehicles, and STS vans while serving as a primary point of contact for clients, drivers, and transportation staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail‑oriented, and comfortable handling multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls and transportation requests in a professional and courteous manner
  • Schedule and coordinate rides for clients using dispatch and scheduling software
  • Communicate schedules, changes, delays, and cancellations to drivers and staff
  • Maintain accurate records of rides, assignments, and client information
  • Respond calmly and effectively to service disruptions or urgent situations
  • Follow transportation program policies, eligibility rules, and confidentiality standards
  • Work collaboratively with transportation and administrative staff

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 6 months to 1 year of related experience preferred (dispatch, call center, transportation, or human services)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and work accurately in a fast‑paced environment
  • Basic computer, data entry, and recordkeeping skills
