POSITION: DISPATCHER - (Irregular Schedule)
REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Dispatcher coordinates and monitors the safe and efficient operation of the electric distribution system within the scope of their responsibilities. This role is responsible for dispatching line crews, responding to outages and emergencies, maintaining system status logs, and communicating with field personnel, members, and other departments to restore service promptly. This position ensures restoration efforts are handled in a reasonable time by routing workflow and providing support to Linemen, Technicians, Engineers, and Contractors. Communication with members may be required to provide technical support information, restore service, or take payments. The Dispatcher will also work heavily in and require a deep knowledge of the AMI system to manage meter alarms, connectivity, and network health.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Receives distribution outage reports. Takes necessary action to restore service as soon as possible observing all safety rules as required.
· Provides HEC personnel information to ensure member commitments of installations and service calls are met.
· Maintains a general knowledge of all related electrical and broadband services provided by the cooperative.
· Handles in-bound/out-bound calls for both internal and external members.
· Issues switching orders on request from appropriate personnel in the field.
· Logs information regarding planned and unplanned outages.
· Reports all pertinent system disturbance and activities to Supervisor.
· Attends dispatcher safety/training meetings.
· Maintains a chronological log of system conditions, clearances, hot line orders, radio communications, breaker operations, and all pertinent conditions.
· Exercises control over the entire power system utilizing analog and telemetry data and operates remote equipment by using SCADA via computer interface.
· Requires the ability to interrogate and operate the AMI system.
· Performs Tier 1 Troubleshooting as needed for broadband customers and assists with escalations in a timely fashion.
· Gains knowledge pertaining to AMI meter alarms, AMI meter connectivity, AMI network troubleshooting, and AMI system upgrades.
· Obtains a working knowledge of meter forms, CT’s, PT’s, and overall metering methodology.
· Runs system reports to evaluate outages, loads, blinks, and other reports as needed by Director of Engineering.
· Performs other related duties as required.
MINMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Minimum of 2-4 years of Member Service and/or Dispatch experience.
SKILLS:
· Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
· Ability to exercise independent judgment and to work in emergency situations with speed and accuracy.
· Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
· Must have calm, steady bearing with courteous telephone manners.
· Organize and prioritize workload.
· Effectively perform multiple tasks simultaneously using various communication methods.
· Strong member focused service mentality.
· Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
WORK CONDITIONS
· Demands for the position are typical of an office environment and must be met to perform essential functions of position.
· Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
· Ability to stoop, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift up to 20 lbs.
· May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work hours in the event physical restoration of fiber and/or electric plant is needed.
HOURS:
· Irregular scheduled 40-hour work week in variable shifts as needed by the Cooperative to cover 24/7 dispatching duties. Shifts may include holidays, weekends, evening, and night shifts.
· Some overtime may be required.
RATE OF PAY:
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
· Applicant must pass drug screen and physical.
· Applicant may be required to take job related pre-employment tests.
· A background check is required.
