Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Dispatcher/Manager to oversee transportation operations, coordinate freight movements, and lead a team of logistics professionals. In this role, you will ensure efficient scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of shipments while maintaining excellent communication with carriers, drivers, and clients. Your expertise in transportation management systems and analysis skills will drive operational excellence and optimize supply chain performance. Duties
- Coordinate daily transportation schedules using systems such as Oracle Transportation Management and SyteLine to ensure timely delivery of freight.
- Dispatch drivers and carriers efficiently by utilizing GPS, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and multi-line phone systems to communicate instructions clearly and promptly.
- Monitor shipment progress through GPS tracking and transportation management systems, making adjustments as needed to meet delivery deadlines.
- Manage shipping & receiving processes, including freight documentation, data entry, and inventory updates within AS400 and other warehouse management platforms.
- Oversee fleet management activities such as vehicle maintenance scheduling, driver dispatching, and compliance with safety regulations.
- Collaborate with 3PL providers (third-party logistics) to streamline supply chain operations and improve overall efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, dispatch logs, incident reports, and other critical documentation with attention to detail and data analysis skills.
- Provide exceptional phone etiquette and communication skills when interacting with clients, carriers, vendors, and team members to ensure clarity and professionalism in all exchanges.
Skills
- Proficiency in transportation management systems like Oracle Transportation Management; experience with SyteLine is a plus.
- Strong analysis skills for evaluating logistics data to identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Knowledge of GPS technology, GIS mapping tools, and fleet management practices.
- Experience with shipping & receiving procedures, freight documentation, and 3PL coordination.
- Excellent communication skills—both verbal and written—and phone etiquette for professional interactions.
- Ability to perform data entry accurately using AS400 or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms.
- Familiarity with dispatching procedures, freight regulations, and transportation planning principles.
- Competence in using multi-line phone systems for efficient call handling; typing skills for quick data entry are essential.
