Job Overview:
The EHS & Hygiene Officer will play a crucial role in maintaining the health, safety, environmental and hygiene standards across the organization. This position involves overseeing the implementation of safety protocols, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving a culture of safety, environmental and hygiene awareness. Working closely with the HSE Manager, the officer will focus on continuously improving safety practices, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring all operations comply with established safety standards.
Key Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
1. Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing HSE policies and procedures.
Conduct regular risk assessments, safety inspections, and environmental audits.
Monitor chemical handling, storage, and disposal to ensure compliance with regulations.
Ensure adherence to local and international safety, environmental, and hygiene standards.
2. Hygiene & Occupational Health Management
Conduct workplace hygiene inspections (cleanliness, sanitation, contamination risks).
Promote hygiene awareness among staff through training and awareness programs.
Support occupational health assessments and medical surveillance programs.
Ensure safe handling of chemicals and biological materials.
3. Incident, Risk & Emergency Management
Investigate incidents, near misses, and hygiene-related nonconformities.
Recommend and implement corrective actions based on investigation findings.
Support emergency response plans, including chemical spills, contamination, and hygiene emergencies.
Conduct drills and ensure equipment (fire, safety, hygiene) is maintained.
4. Environmental & Hygiene Assessments
Assist in performing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA).
Conduct hygiene assessments and occupational health audits.
Track trends and propose improvements to safety, environmental, and hygiene programs.
5. Reporting & Documentation
Maintain records of inspections, incidents, risk assessments, and training sessions.
Prepare reports for management, audits, and regulatory compliance.
Document hygiene and environmental performance metrics.
6. Collaboration & Training
Work closely with operations, maintenance, and cleaning/hygiene teams.
Promote a culture of safety, hygiene, and environmental responsibility across all levels.
Stay updated with best practices, regulations, and industry standards in EHS and hygiene.
Key Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Safety, Microbiology, or related field.
NEBOSH IGC certification; IOSH Managing Safely is mandatory.
Certifications in First Aid, Fire Safety are advantageous.
Strong knowledge in ISO 45001,ISO 14001, and hygiene-related standards (ISO 22000/HACCP)
3–5 years’ experience in health, safety, environmental, and hygiene roles.
Knowledge of chemical safety, risk assessments, hygiene audits, and workplace inspections.
Strong reporting and documentation skills.
Valid UAE Driving License.
Skills:
Fluency in English & Hindi; additional languages are a plus. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Good to have knowledge of tools such as Notion, Asana, Slack, or similar platforms for collaboration and task management.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to various operational environments, including possible exposure to heat, noise, and chemicals. Occasional travel may be required for site inspections or meetings. The role may require shift work, including night shifts, to ensure continuous HSE oversight.
