Emergency Communications Officer

Duties

  • Answer incoming emergency calls promptly using multi-line phone systems, demonstrating excellent phone etiquette and communication skills.
  • Perform accurate phone triage to assess the nature and severity of incidents, gathering essential information efficiently.
  • Dispatch appropriate emergency services such as law enforcement, medical teams, or fire departments based on assessed needs.
  • Utilize GPS and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology to pinpoint incident locations precisely for rapid response.
  • Maintain detailed logs and documentation through data entry, transcription, and report writing to ensure accurate records of all communications.
  • Manage conflict and negotiate effectively with distressed callers to obtain critical information while maintaining calm and professionalism.
  • Coordinate with first responders, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders to facilitate seamless incident management and security protocols.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or GED equivalency is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computers and data entry
  • Must be computer literate
  • Dispatch experience is preferred but not required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Pass a criminal records check and background investigation
  • Be drug free
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Have the ability to type 40 words per minute
  • Complete a polygraph test
  • Ability to attend and complete the Idaho POST dispatch academy within one year of hire
