Environment, Health & Safety Officer

Canadian University Dubai is seeking to appoint a highly competent and proactive Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Officer to support the University’s commitment to providing a safe, healthy, sustainable, and compliant campus environment aligned with international best practices.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing EHS systems, regulatory compliance programs, sustainability initiatives, and continuous improvement strategies across the campus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Facilities Management, or related discipline.
  • NEBOSH Certificate (IGC or higher) is mandatory. NEBOSH Diploma is an advantage.
  • Professional certifications such as IOSH, ISO 45001 Lead Auditor, LEED Green Associate, or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably within universities, schools, colleges, or large educational institutions.
  • Strong experience in developing Risk Registers and enterprise risk mitigation frameworks.
  • Proven experience in drafting EHS policies, SOPs, emergency procedures, and sustainability frameworks.
  • Experience in conducting inspections, audits, compliance monitoring, and incident investigations.
  • Good knowledge of carbon emissions reporting, ESG principles, and sustainability metrics.
  • Familiarity with LEED standards, green building practices, and environmental compliance.
  • Strong communication skills in English; Arabic is an advantage.
  • Excellent reporting, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain Environment, Health & Safety policies, procedures, and management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE regulatory requirements, Civil Defense standards, and international best practices.
  • Maintain and regularly update the University Risk Register, conducting risk assessments and mitigation plans across all departments.
  • Conduct routine campus safety inspections, audits, hazard identification reviews, and compliance checks.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness plans, drills, evacuation exercises, and ERT readiness programs.
  • Deliver health, safety, and environmental awareness training for staff, students, and contractors.
  • Develop and monitor sustainability initiatives related to energy efficiency, waste reduction, water conservation, and environmental performance.
  • Support carbon emissions tracking, sustainability reporting, and environmental KPI management.
  • Contribute to LEED, green building, and campus sustainability certification initiatives.
  • Develop sustainability policies, environmental procedures, and awareness campaigns.
  • Monitor contractor compliance, permit-to-work systems, and safe working practices on campus projects.
  • Prepare management reports, dashboards, and recommendations for continuous improvement.
