Estimation Engineer

Role Summary

The Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing drawings, specifications, and tender documents. The role supports business development and project acquisition by delivering reliable project cost assessments and coordinating with engineering, procurement, and commercial teams.

The Estimation Engineer also contributes to value engineering, risk analysis, and cost optimization to enhance project competitiveness and profitability.

Tender & Bid Management

* Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and scope of work to understand project requirements.

* Prepare tender review summaries and bid/no-bid analysis for management approval.

* Develop comprehensive cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, subcontracting, and overheads.

* Prepare technical and commercial tender submissions in accordance with client requirements.

* Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and tender clarification meetings.

* Support post-tender negotiations and contract finalization.

Quantity Take-Off & Cost Estimation

* Perform detailed quantity take-offs (QTO) from drawings and specifications.

* Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and cost breakdown structures.

* Develop unit rate analysis for major construction activities.

* Estimate costs for civil, structural, architectural, and MEP works where applicable.

* Validate quantities and ensure alignment with project scope and design requirements.

Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination

* Request quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

* Evaluate vendor offers for technical compliance and commercial competitiveness.

* Conduct comparative analysis of quotations and recommend optimal suppliers.

* Support procurement teams with pricing benchmarks and cost validation.

Cost Analysis & Risk Assessment

* Conduct cost risk analysis and sensitivity analysis.

* Identify pricing risks, market fluctuations, and escalation factors.

* Develop cost contingencies and risk mitigation strategies.

* Review project assumptions and ensure pricing accuracy.

Value Engineering & Cost Optimization

* Propose value engineering alternatives to optimize project costs.

* Analyze alternative materials, construction methods, and design solutions.

* Support design teams with cost-effective engineering recommendations.

Estimation Database & Market Intelligence

* Maintain historical cost databases and pricing benchmarks.

* Monitor market trends, material price fluctuations, and labor costs.

* Maintain a database of supplier and subcontractor rates.

Coordination with Project Teams

* Coordinate with engineering, procurement, planning, and project management teams.

* Support project teams during handover from estimation to execution.

* Provide clarification on estimate assumptions, inclusions, and exclusions.

Documentation & Reporting

* Prepare detailed estimate reports and cost summaries for management approval.

* Maintain proper documentation of pricing assumptions, calculations, and references.

* Ensure estimates are traceable and auditable.

Tender Strategy & Benchmarking

* Develop pricing strategies for competitive bidding by analyzing project scope, market conditions, and risk exposure.

* Review and validate cost build-up, markups, contingencies, and overhead allocations.

* Review and approve final tender submissions prior to management approval.

* Conduct benchmarking of tender pricing against historical project data and internal cost databases.

* Perform comparative analysis of previous successful tenders to improve future bid strategies.

* Evaluate competitor pricing trends and market benchmarks to refine tender pricing models.

* Lead internal tender review meetings with commercial, procurement, and project teams.

* Ensure pricing consistency across BOQ items, subcontractor quotations, and internal estimates.

* Maintain a tender benchmarking database including unit rates and productivity benchmarks.

* Provide management with bid summary reports and strategic recommendations before submission.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.

* Strong understanding of construction estimation principles, costing, and tendering processes.

* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOQs.

* Proficiency in estimation software such as CostX, Candy, PlanSwift, or similar tools.

* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for cost analysis and modeling.

* 6–7 years of experience in construction estimation, preferably high-rise projects.

* Experience working on GCC construction projects, particularly in UAE high-rise developments.

* Knowledge of project planning and cost control tools (Primavera P6, MS Project).

* Familiarity with FIDIC contract conditions and commercial management practices.

* Professional certifications such as PMP, CCP, or equivalent.

* Experience in value engineering

Pay: AED12,000.00 - AED15,000.00 per month
